The upgrade from 7.0.9 to 7.1.0

Wow!

I did a upgrade and now my website is a total mess!  I can't use my custom template I was working on in the tmpl_folder.  It looks like a lot of work I was doing is gone in this version of dolphin and also a lot of time!  It will take me a real long time to fix this.  I just might start all over!  Frown

I am not trying to bitch Laughing I love boonex dolphin but i just don't know what to do from here. I really like the upgrade but I might just stay with the 7.0.9 version (upload my backups I did before this upgrade I am glad I did that because now I can make a choice of which version i want to use).  So, I just might be stuck with the 7.0.9 version for life!  I am confused on what I want to do!

If I start from scratch and start redesigning my website I hope this doesn't happen again when i do another upgrade?

Should I just stay with 7.0.9 version? brr  Undecided  Cry

In the upgrade instructions, I think one of the first things is to switch the site to the UNI template, because no .9 templates work with 7.1, there were many blogs/notes about this a couple months ago.

I tried to do a .9 site as well, removing old modules and changing templates. I ended up staying with .9 on two of my sites and do not see going to 7.1 never just because of template and modules issues.

I cloned the site first, to see if members would like the 7.1 version.. 90% voted no on it.

Well that's nice to know that I am not the only one that feels this way!

How do you clone a website? I haven't never done this before.

Is 7.1.0 customizable?

How do you clone a website?
  •  make a sub domain
  • manually clean the cache folders
  • copy your install to that subdomain folder
  • download the database via phpMyAdmin
  • make a blank database
  • upload the downloaded sql to the new blank database
  • change the /inc/header.inc.php

your going to change in header

  • URL for the site
  • looking through find the database name and change to the new one you created earlier
  • and line 20 $dir['root'] add the /home/yoursite/public_html/subdomainname/
  • make sure the cache folders are at 777 on permissions (Thanks Zarcon!!)
  • access new cloned site and start the update process

cool, so when i do the subdomain in cpanel can i put any url? if yes how would i access it thru the browser?

 e.g.

71test.mynewbeetle.net

in the the address bar you would have http://mynewbeetle.net/71test  that would access the domain.

[edit] so whatever the subdomain name is, it will be a folder in main public_html.. got it?
