Taking Viptopia from 7.09 to 7.1 ??

I am so scared to do this, I mean I have the template bought already, but I am worried, mostly about the Flashcoms chat working after the upgrade, and if I was to try to go forward would it be best to uninstall as many of the modules that I can then reinstall them on 7.1?  ...  I am just nervous about do the upgrade, I had Newt ready to do it once but think we called it off about half way through backing it up lol

.... need you all who has upgraded a bigger sized site to toss in some advise here please

Do the upgrade process on a clone of your current site so you have time to make sure the upgrade went ok and that all source mods are put back in. It provides a practice run and allows you to get your dolphin files modified with all your mods.

As was stated, if you don't mind the extra work, create a clone of your site and do it first.  That way you will know of any potential problems, deal with them on the clone site, and they you will be prepared for the actual upgrade of the production site.

I always do module installs to a test site first; so it makes sense to do the same for something this large.

And of course back up everything, site files and databases before you do the production site so that you can recover.

Follow the upgrade instructions to the letter.  If Newton is going to help you then he knows all this stuff.

 yeah its going to have to be done that way,, you think it would be ok to grab a shared server real quick just to clone the site on and do the upgrade and changes,, then once it is all complete toss it back on the cloud?

If you are worried about your production site, then yes, you can do the upgrade on another server.  You need to have peace of mind and I think you are worried about losing your site.  Newton can help, he is very capable.

I still dont know what it is that makes me so nervous about working on my own sites, I mean deep down I know what to do and I can do it without fail,, and would do it for someone else in a heartbeat, but when it comes to my own I freak and get nervous and like go blank... strange I know

What's the worst thing that could happen?  Maybe the whole site self destructs, and you have to start all over from scratch.  So what? Screw 'em if they can't take a joke.

 I once had to remove all members with AOL email adresses due to a huge fall out I had with AOL over them reporting my site and trying to have me blacklisted for mailing MY OWN MEMBERS,, who joined and subscribed willingly... was like 3500 members,, THOSE PEOPLE FREAKED!!.. you would think that I stole something from them, like it wasn't easy to just create a new FREE profile again,, I swear you would had thought they had years worth of time invested in them or something.

and ask Josh how starting out from scratch with losing thousands of legit accounts worked out for him that one time ;)

Welcome To Dolphin 7.1 !!  just two weeks from now Dolphin 7.1.5 is coming out..

 hahhahaaa,, I remember holding on to 6 for EIGHT!   cause WE was ALL waiting after 8 was suppose to come out and was announced!

You don't need another server to clone. You can clone your site and database to a subdomain directory. 

 yeah i know it was no "need" to, i was just saying it would be ALOT easier and just incase i made some mega mistake it wouldnt crash my other sites

If it gives you peace of mind.  Someone may even have some extra space on a server they will let you use without buying a server.  

Tommy, I told you the only thing that is holding your back from upgrading is the addition of the Poker script.

All other aspects of the site should transfer with no problem.

If your willing to deal with the site being awkward for a day, I see no reason VIP and Rangers cannot be upgraded..

 Yeah I forgot about the poker script, did Josh ever say if there was an issue with it an 7.1 ... guess I will get with him and we will move forward on it soon as 5 is released in a couple days,,, we will do Viptopia and then if all goes well we can do Rangerschat

There shouldn't be an issue as many others have done the poker on 7.1, problem is I have never taken a site with that mod to 7.1, as I told you a while back.

Personally, I think you should trash the poker, or are you getting that many players.

The advantage with 7.1.x is the speed improvements and spam controls as you have seen with reefmasters.net.

 I cant trash the poker, there are loads of people on the site that ONLY do poker. They bugged me for it for YEARS,, remember back in 2010 when I first was trying to get it??... they was on me from THEN till a few months ago when someone came up with the files and people got it to working as an option again... yeah, No we have to keep the poker

 Then let's clone VIP and do the upgrade and see what happens...
