RE:
Am I missing something
More like "Missed something a long time ago"
Once upon a time, in the days of Dolphin 6, Boonex thought it would be a good idea to have something called "Shared Photos". Every time someone added a photo to a Dolphin 6 site, it would appear in the Shared Photos section of the site for all to see. Their were no photo albums. There were no privacy setting. It was awful.
Then the Boonex team started working on Dolphin 7. They started building the photo module the same way. A few of us lobbied intensely for things like photo albums and privacy settings. After many alpha, beta, and RC stages, we finally got what outwardly appeared to be a viable photo system. As it turned out, Boonex was still clinging to the "Shared Photos" concept as if their life depended on it. None of us that lobbied for a photo album system to organize photos, or privacy settings to control who could see our photos, every really understood why Boonex was clinging to the shared photos concept. Every time someone added a photo album with a privacy setting of 'Public", it appeared in the photos section... NOT associated with the users profile. Every time someone added a photo to a group, event, ad, etc, with a public privacy setting... there the photo was.... in the photos section where it had no business being. Much to our horror, the "Shared Photos" concept was alive... a wolf in sheep's clothing. This time it was worse. Any photo that didn't have it's privacy setting set to "public", appeared as an ugly blue padlock. There were thousands upon countless thousands of ugly blue padlocks taking over the internet. It was a horrific sight.
In Dolphin 7.1.4 the ugly blue padlocks have lost momentum, but they're out there somewhere in 7.0.x sites, lurking in the darkest corners of the internet. Sadly, the shared photo concept remains firmly entrenched in Dolphin 7.1.4, and that's why you have the annoying problem that you do. Along with the rest of us, you are stuck with it.
Perhaps in Dolphin U, someone will come up with a photo system that finally rids of of this ridiculous shared photos concept. Personal photos belong to a members profile, group photos belong to groups, event photos belong to events, etc, etc, and NONE of them belong to some general purpose photo system where people can view them OUT of the contexxt in which they were intended to be viewed.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.
