Evidently it transforms them in the create-thumbnail process. NO idea why it must tamper with the original upload for the main image that shows, though, instead of just reformatting the thumbnail version. Seems like the thumbnail version could follow the original image, too, though... after all gifs can be small, too! If someone's chosen a format for their image, there might be a reason for that choice! My members have complained about the photo upload stripping their gifs of animation and don't seem very happy with the 'view original' as the option for the animation showing (not to mention the security issues w/ having the 'view original' option). I'd like to have a fix for the image issue as well, although it seems like it should be fixed in the default Dolphin settings. |
for the logos and stuff i found it best to upload my png from admin panel then upload a new copy to server i have no idea how to change the image settings for member though ..

What is the best method to upload a PNG logo? Everytime I try to upload a PNG with transparency, it does not appear correctly. There is wierd stroke around the logo..
Any advice? |
I have noticed that is you do not check the "allow resizing" box then it will upload the PNG with no problems. |
There should be no problems uploading transparent gifs or png files for the logo. All of my logos have transparent backgrounds and (after following Deano's advice) are in png format (I also used gifs and trying to see the difference, but so far have seen none). And the resizing should not affect whether or not the logo uploads - unless you have made some code changes that are affecting the upload of a logo. caredesign.net |
Yes, but migone1 is correct. If you have the resize box checked then dolphin will resize the image. The resizing is what causes it, so it has to be unchecked. https://www.deanbassett.com |
@deano - so most likely there was a code change somewhere that is causing the logo not to upload if the resize is checked? Reminds me of an issue I had a long time ago where users could not log in unless they checked the remember me box. caredesign.net |
The image will upload but apparently the resize algorithm used is causing issues. There is another area of Dolphin where resizing is causing issues and that is in profile photo thumbs; in that case it was just bad offset values that results in heads being lopped off, or clipped. GD should not have any issues resizing the logo so I guess it must be something Dolphin is doing. As for gifs, the real issue with transparency on them is when you don't have sharp outlines; areas with a solid colour. If you have shadows and blending then often the gif will have jagged edges because it is guessing at what colour should be part of the image and what part is the transparent background. Png images don't suffer from this problem. Geeks, making the world a better place |
