Splash Page Help Please!

Hey everyone, I have something that's been bothering me for a while now, I tried to put off asking for help on this in hope that I will figure it out myself, but I failed, lol.

I'm learning dolphin and trying to customise my site, I've made a splash page instead of buying one (to make it more personal) but I can't for the life of me get a join form to work on it, i've tried the code snippets from the "BxDolPageView.php" for latest members, but it just shows nothing :S (yes I did the include_once) lol.

here's the splash page: www.profilespace.co.uk

I've even tried just using the php snippets from the pages block, without success. I would be very happy if you could possibly give me the codes needed to show join form, latest members and latest photos on my splash page, if possible. Even just the join form would be amazing!

Please, someone help me! :D

i would recommend, that you purchase a functional splash page that has the functionality you are seeking, then design it to your personal liking.

if you purchase a splash page, say from gorpus --> http://gorpus.com then you can modify it to suit your needs, and get an understanding from what he has done, as a basis and foundation for which to create your own splash page, should you decide to take that route.

Thanks DosDawg but i'd rather struggle and make my own than buy one and have it done for me, then when it's done I know I did it and it's more satisfying :)

I started this website wanting as little third party input as possible, obviously I have used some modules and stuff from boonex and the great developers here but only because I would never be able to make such modules myself for a long time, but i'm learning :)

Hi DCSniper,

I'm right now in the same situation, I have been digging through the code for 2 days and can not get the login form to my splash page. I'm not a php developer so it's been trial and error all the way :) Which hasn't worked too well so far..

When i do get it to work the whole template from my dolphin site comes along, which i of course do not want.

I saw on your site that you managed to finally do it, could you let me know how you managed?

I simply need to know where to get the proper code for the login form and which files to include.

It would be great if you could shoot me an email aladoinsano _at_ gmail.com

I think what DosDawg is trying to say; it might better to acquire a splash page and work from there. I think there are some free "splash" pages in the market.

Although,  in the eyes of a search engine, splash pages are just bells and whistles, your better off allowing your index page to be "all it can be" and not hidden behind a splash page.. just speaking from an SEO opinion.

I've replied to your message on my site, let me know if you need more help. As I have learnt quite a lot about Dolphin with my custom edits :P

you are correct newton, using a splash page does have a hindering affect on SEO of a site. unless you optimize that splash page, which is a bit trickier, then you are basically putting a barrier up between your site and the robots.

there are times when i would say a splash page is necessary, such as to warn that the content is adult oriented, but if your site is about green shoe strings, then placing a splash page, is not the best idea. if you need to cloud the content of the site, then it would be my suggestion to load dolphin on a subdomain, and use wordpress or some other CMS to provide an interface to the robots and non-members, something you can optimize, and get the best results from the search engines.

you are putting yourself in a predicament, that otherwise should not be. if you are not a programmer, or have no programming skills, then creating a dynamic splash page is not going to be the easiest of tasks.

if you use a free splash page, or a paid splash page, the functionality elements are what you want, the design can be easily modified.

even if you use anothers splash page to study, you need something to provider the interjection between not knowing, and providing some half-assed idea.

Message the vendor creator, they may work something out with you.

They have the option to allow you to download without making the payment.

Perhaps they will accept a cashiers check or other payment.

[edit] You will see that the best vendors usually have a website elsewhere that you can purchase from other than just Paypal.
