Spam sign-ups... Endless problem

Ok, this I starting to drive us wonky to say the least. I'm sure everyone running dolphin has seen the beckams and nicho's and mary's the thing is, when these profiles are created, there is also a second profile which is not visible in the member listing that is created. This profile usually has all the same info, except a (2) after the user name and email. I don't quite understand it, but I have read about database attacks. This appears to be one of those. The first profile can be deleted, but the second has to be rejected and it still sits on the database occupying space and, in the end, costing money and causing problems. I have brought this up in the past and have heard nothing. At first I was a fan of your software and was even considering purchasing a number of licences (I have over 50 domains I'm working on) but with problems like this being ignored, am I better off with Drupal???? I really hope you will get back to me on this

It is because they signed up as a couple. the (2) one is to identify the other person. I think you can disable couples then you don't have to worry about that...

Your original post was done at about 1 AM as per my timezone. Most active members are from the US and may have missed your posting and would have been looked over very easily.

[edit] Spammers/Bots are usually easy to handled by splitting your join form into two separate pages.

crack_foo is correct. That 2 is the second profile of a couple profile.

As for them deleting, that was a problem that was fixed a long, long time ago.

I have not been able to duplicate the problem. Deleting a profile from admin deletes both entries for a couple everytime i tested it on several test sites.

I could not locate a bug.

What is your current version of dolphin?

It is version 7. It is kinda castrated and I will be reinstalling it fr I'm scratch. I made a number of errors in the enset, such as using the gender field for interests (lesbian site) and I was also playing around with the main page files changing the footer and now the forum doesn't work etc etc. I also royally screwed up the admin menu where multiple links are now missing. This is what happens when amateurs play. As for the problem, the wierd thing is, the couple profile is active whereas the other one is not. It is almost like they managed to hide profiles on me. I will double check that later on. Right now my admin is getting frustrated because she has to constantly deal with these Chinese spammers, in addition to the Nigerian scammers. Hense my thought process on just getting a fully licensed version or versions. I have been playing with a number of packages including oxwall and drupal. Drupal is awesome as I can remove the footer ads and replace with my own branding at no cost. Lots of mucking around, I know. I understand the need and desire to brand on the free version, but does it have to be so big? It is also misleading as it makes it look like the site is owned by boonex. Not a big deal, I just need to quit being such a stingy kraut. Maybe more licensing options would be great. Thanks for the input

7 is not specific enough. there have been so far 10 versions of dolphin 7. They are 7.0.0 - 7.0.9

There were several RC/Beta releases prior to that. and a 11'th released is currently being worked on. Version 7.1.0

The problem with the deleting of the second profile entry was fixed on very early releases although i do not remember exactly which one.

Anyhow, if your going to start over with a fresh install, then that problem should go away.

As for the spam. There are ways to deal with that as well. It has been discussed many times here in the forums and many have come up with various solutions. Like this topic. http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/China-is-invading-help-me-with-form-field-validation.htm

And there are many other topics on the issue as well.
