Sound Categories - Don't use commas

This may apply to photos and videos, not sure.

Creating a category and including a comma in it (eg. "Music - Pop, Pop Rock") and then uploading a sound in it:

- the activity will not be shown in the Outline block or the Spy;

- The category will not be shown on the categories page.  It will be listed in the "User Categories" block though, as two categories, as (eg. "Music - Pop" and also "Pop Rock").

Similar to tags, the comma is a separator.  No biggie.  Just wish I had known - an hour of my life I will never get back.  If I hadn't removed the "user categories" block I'd have noticed the category split right away.

Another reason why Dolphin should include the option to include Sub Categories. If we were able to add to a Parent Category, in your example 'Music' being the parent, sub category 1 'Pop' , sub category 2 'Rock', etc it would be easier & a lot neater too. Sadly Dolphin is the only platform that doesn't have this as standard as far as I know which is a shame.

I have brought this up a view times that the whole category table and it's structure for the standard category used in modules should be changed. It's setup is done wrong and should be looked at by the development team.

I agree (especially with the point about sub-standard functionality) but in my case it's not a concern for me at the moment.  I'm trying to keep everything simple on my site so I'm doing just fewer, broader categories.  But I understand the need for some people.

In my example I am trying to group 2 similar genres together to decrease the total number of categories - "pop" and "pop rock."  So I just named the category "Music - Pop and Pop Rock."  I would be doing this even if dolphin had the functionality of creating sub-categories.

Regardless - commas should not be separators for categories creation!!!!

Nor quotes, you can create a category from admin with a quote but you can not delete it.  I have already posted this as a bug and Alex added a ticket for it.

Your comma should be reported as a bug so that it can be worked on; either alert that commas can not be used or fix it where they can.

Geeks, making the world a better place
