Well, I managed to launch my site to public after struggling for few weeks .But alas, after launching to public merely 2 hours, my site was suspended by HFW! Reason being server burst!Using too much of the root node systems resources (RAM or CPU), RMS using too many system resources!
Per their advice, I had to upgrade from VPS to dedicated server. They are now installing the server, hence my site will be down for at least 72 hours! Yes, down for at least 72 hours after launching 2 hours to the public. So discouraging & embarassing!
Just like to share my story to all the newbies here..

Dolphin can even run in shared servers. Check whether there is any unwanted script was there.

I'm using Ray since a bit more than one year on a VPS. At the begining Ray was working but very slowly... My host provider just increased the RAM from the original 128Mo to 256Mo. Then I never had any problem any more and Ray is running very fast :-)

hmm..2000 active members? But if I understand correctly, VPS can't hold more than 400 members online at the same time. Actually I mass sent newsletter to my 1000+ members from another site (not dolphin) & asked them to join my new site. Then the new site burst 2 hours later..  |
how many people were on the site. i think this sounds a little hokey to me. i just dont think they are being honest with you. were you able to monitor the sites functionality prior to them saying you blew up the server? why was it pinpointed that you killed the server after all it is a vps, and that should have carried as many as 5k users. unless the server was on its way out when they gave you that account. i would watch out for these guys. good luck

Theoretically my VPS can support an unlimited number of connected users (my VPS is directly connected to the second largest national Swiss Network (40 Gbit/s)).

actually HFW sent me details. But frankly speaking, i didn't know how to interpret the report. I contacted them, they told me the best way to prevent this from happening again is to upgrade from VPS to dedicated server. H

node. The root node is the master system on which your VPS account
(VE) runs. Your VE was observed using too much of the root node systems
resources (RAM or CPU).
We have included some information to help you track this down so that
you may make the necessary adjustments to prevent this from happening
again. On a 1st suspension, we will un-suspend once you have contacted us
and let us know what actions you will make to prevent a re-occurrence.
However, upon 2nd suspension, you will be required to work with lvl3
to resolve this issue and begin the process of moving to a dedicated
server if it is determined that your applications require dedicated

Let me get this straight... HFW says you need a dedicated server and the only evidence they can send you is a page full of requests for ONE FILE?? Whatever mp3 #12 is it must be VERY popular. My question is how can Hostmonster let me have 15 sites on a SHARED hosting account but HFW has the balls to tell you that you need to upgrade to a dedicated server!?! Isn't their cheapest one like $150 a month? I'm paying less than that for a year. Remember hosting plans are like dating, NOT getting married :-)

I don't pretend to understand the technology here, but I agree with Msscott - something smells funny. I have a low cost host that was painfully slow at first. When I asked them about this, on their own initiative they did some research about Dolphin, made a few tweaks related to RMS (but as far as I know did not install an RMS server) and got it working at an acceptable performance level (though it has not yet been battle-tested). In the course of my business, I have found people paying outrageous prices for hosting, as most people don't understand it is basically a commodity these days. I think these guys were using this as an excuse to make up upgrade to a dedicated server.

Yeah Michael I got that, thanks. I'm certainly gonna make a note of all the recommendations.
It would be a very good idea to have a post with a list of all the good recommended hosts for everyones benefit.
It seems that a lot of the people who post on here are having problems with their hosts. A lot of teh time I bet they are attributing the Dolphin problems to Dolphin when its probably just a dodgy host.
In this case i would remove that file 12 and then contact HFW and tell them what you have done, get them to get it going again, and then monitor your bandwidth and the like.

I don't like to do anything that will be unfair to BoonEx.
They have some agreement with HostForWeb, that's fine for me. I will not advertise my own host provider here.
Even if my host provider is offering professional services, I had to ask to customize their "standard" php.ini to fit Dolphin/Ray/Orca requierements (for example to allow true fonts in GD library or xslt support...). I think that these "special" settings are the conditions to run a "special" web site.

but I thought we must have at least VPS plan to run Ray? I'm a bit confused as I've checked this with at least 3 web host. If I understand correctly, we can use shared server if we were to install Dolphin only , without Ray.
hmm...regarding removing file#12. I was too panicky when my site was down & couldn't access cpanel. I did think of removing file#12 and then monitor the situation. But on second thought, I decided to proceed to upgrade to dedicated server as I was too exhausted and wanted a quick way out since i had spent too much time on ironing those problem I faced with boonex, no more energy left to tackle server problem.
Honestly speaking, I only have experience running a free forum with thousand+ members. This is my 1st time using paid community software and I've no web programming or other technical knowledge, so there are many things for me to learn from here.

It seems the ffmpeg.exe in the ray/modules/global/app caused the problem,
Already its well known that the ffmpeg.exe take much of server resource. So many hosts won't support it.
You can install a new ffmpeg and use it rather than the one in dolphin pack.
