Some one give me a bat.

Someone give me a bat.

There is a spammer here. 13 posts in 10 min. http://www.boonex.com/aloezyp

I want to club them over the head.

A lot of people may think that forcing people to upgrade to Advanced in order to post in the forums was a bad idea. But when it was in place, this did not happen.

Ugggg, he is up to 22 new topics.

I want to rip his intestines out through his belly button.

I mean come on. What does he hope to gain.

Boonex i am not interested in a moderator status but i sure (and some others members) would like the option to ban/delete forum posts.
What do you say good/bad idea?

I think I was the only one who handled the spam...

Yea. Maybe they need a sub moderator level.

I do not want the responsibility of a regular moderator, but i sure would be willing to cruise the forums getting rid of spammers.

I agree. I don't think any of the current moderators bother with this stuff.

Thank you for dealing with it, rhimpr! This is an interestign topic, per se, because in some cases neither automatic blocks nor micro-payment ($5 in our case, but they might just use stolen cards) stop them.

We have new ideas for Dolphin, which we need to test soon at 4ppl.com (we plan to put Dolphin there and have a run), since that site is rather "infested" and is a good research ground. For obvious reasons I can't reveal our ideas now, but would appreciate any additional input, suggestions, tips on what can be done to combat spam in Dolphin.

I can reveal that is is impossible for spammers living outside the US to join my site.... even non spammers living outside the US can't join, but fck 'em... who needs 'em.  If I could find a way to block everyone that lives north of Dallas, I'd do it.  Of course, someone living in the US can spam, but then I could get on a plane, and rip their guts out through their wind pipe.

Ditto... I don't want to fool with any dispute non-sense but I would LOVE to have the power to delete spam on here.

Oh and Andrew I have to respectfully disagree with you about the $5 to join, I doubt any of these spammers would go to the trouble of using a stolen credit card to join, the will just move on to a free site and post there.

A bat for the spammers sounds as a good idea, if they are busy playing baseball they can't get hold of the keyboard to send more spam.

Ps:

If the baseball it's not enticing them, especially the chinese variety, you might want to try with a cricket's bat, i did read somewhere that the high protein values of it is unbeatable....

Maybe you can post a request for a custom Dolphin's module to be installed on a drone ?

Is being underwater a necessary requirement to hold the rank?

The Advanced limit for the forums actually brought spam to a halt.  It was only after you allowed Starters to post here that spam resumed.  No other part of the site has a spam problem, because Starter members aren't allowed to post anywhere else.  In the few rare cases where a spammer still managed to post on the forums, it was because the account was years old.

There are a few ways to control the spam problem:

  1. Disable access for Starter accounts.
  2. Limit the number of new topics and posts an account can make within X amount of time.
  3. Fix current implementations like Akismet.

The 3rd method is more for Dolphin than here.  The 2nd method is most ideal.

I think the overall quality of these forums has gone down since allowing posting with out paying a small fee.

Pay to play has its place in keeping spammers out AND making people think twice before coughing up $5 to ask questions that have already been answered that they can find for free if they just search (especially when they are only checking out the software and aren't serious about developing with dolphin).

I couldn't agree more, i say bring the fee back and add another $5 to it Laughing

No no no, i agree but make it at least 500$, allow only people in Dallas to join and only if they are called Jay R, smoke cigars and wears cowboys's hats, i think it's a fair deal.

We all love a quiet and peacefull place, don't we?

It can even become a source of inspiration for the next release "Dolphin Zen"
