Shrinktheweb and 2 sites on same server

I have encountered a problem with Shrinktheweb and  Shared Servers

With 2 dolphin sites on the same server: customer 1 www.xyz.com and customer 2 www.abc.com

customer 1 registered www.xyz.com with with Shrinktheweb for their site adding the servers IP (IMPORTANT NOTE: By default, you must add your server's IP address to ShrinkTheWeb's "Allowed Referrers" list)

Then when customer 2 registers www.abc.com  with with Shrinktheweb for their site adding the servers IP (as above) one finds the IP is locked already to customer 1 and the can not use Shrinktheweb for their site.

Any advise on this would be appricated as it has a big impact on the use of shared servers.

Hi

i think this is something that you wil need to ask shrinktheweb about as its them that have blacked the IP for the other customer.

have you tried webshot to capture screen images  http://www.websitescreenshots.com/

Hello eva1,

This is Brandon, from ShrinkTheWeb. Unfortunately, we were forced to block IPs & domains on a first-come-first-served basis, in order to prevent abuse of the service. Now, there are only two ways around this issue:

  1. If you have a dedicated IP, you could "bind" PHP to that IP*, which would make it unique to our system... OR
  2. You could upgrade to Basic or PLUS account level, which will then allow you to add the IP to your allowed referrers list

Here is a link to PHP's website on how to bind IP addresses: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.socket-bind.php

On a side note, this whole process is a bit frustrating for us as well, once we were forced to do it this way. Even when I was able to afford to offer the service completely free for everyone, there were many users who would sign up multiple accounts and try to "steal" the "free" service. Crazy! Those people will always exist, and so the few ruin it for the many.

Best regards,

Brandon
