Show profile pics for non-members

Dear Dolphin-community,

I had set my site with a redirect to join.php so that users have access only once they have registered.

I have removed this redirect now so guest or non-members can already see some content of my site.

I put some featured members on the index page and noticed, that the profile pics of these members do not show to non-members yet, only once you are logged in.

Is there a way to make the profile pics already visible to non-members? (When clicking on a member, it should still not be possible to see more info, though).

Many thanks for your help!

If I understand you correctly, you want VISITORS to be able to see thumbnails of featured members. I can see why you may wish to do this because it makes people realise that the site does have real people as members.

Before you do it, you may wish to consider the ramifications. Visitors can be anybody and some may not be desirable. Depending on where you live, privacy laws may require you to warn members that if they are featured, there profile photos will be available to the public. Some, if not all may not be happy with this, so warn them anyway.

Provided all is okay, you should be able to manage this. Please understand that I'm doing it from memory and I could be wrong. Therefore, always practice on a test site!

  • In admin/builders/pages builder go to Home Page. Look for the Featured Members block and if inactive, place it on the page. Open the block and set it for members and guests, or just guests if you want to hide it from members.
  • Go to the Profile View page in pages builder. Set ALL blocks to members only or everyone except guests.
  • Go to admin/builders/navigation menu and set all Main Menu headings to Members Only.
  • Provided I've got it right, all the guest will see is a list of featured members, but when they click any thumbnail, they'll be told they don't have access to the information.

This is the wonderful thing about Dolphin. The permutations are endless, but you have to figure them out yourself. A concise manual would be thousands of pages thick.

Love the script - we're trying to keep it alive!

Hi John,

thank you so much for your answer!

Yes, you understood right. I would like visitors to be able to see the thumbnails of the featured members (without having access to more details about them).

I have the Featured Members block on the homepage visible to guests and members, the other settings are set as you described. However, the thumbnails still don't show. I am not sure what is still missing...

No, matter, again thank you very much for taking the time to answer so detailed! I do appreciate it and am very happy that there are members like you who support the community so much! Especially in times like these...

Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.

Maybe the problem is elsewhere. If you have everything set properly as per my example. have you played with the Photos module itself?

About a third of the way down the Settings, you will see the option: How Many Photos Show In Featured, Top, And Similar Sections.

I think the default Is 6 but you may have it set to zero. Try changing the number, clear the cache and see if that works.

I've never used the featured members block, but a colleague does. I don't think his settings will be anything different, but I'll check later today.

Thank you John.

I also checked the Photo module, the How Many Photos Show In Featured, Top, And Similar Sections is set to 6.

I could not find anything either in Settings, Privacy settings. I would believe it has something to do with Privacy or the Member settings.

I guess, sometimes it takes a bit to find the way around in Dolphin ;)
