Should I jump into the water?

Hello All,

today was the first time I bumped into Dolphin, so bear wth me :)

I am looking for a script/CMS to run a dating site, and I found Dolphin and decided to give it a try..

Surely, I read the manual briefly and went to installation .... :(

well, I guess you know what happend, I bombed with errors...

most of the time I handle all installation but this time it seems like a big project to install a Dolphin,

I would like to ask you guys who already use Dolphin if it worth the effort?

- do you think its the best script for dating? (I have no site yet so no immigration..)

- is it stable? what about bugs?

- how easy it is to operate as admin and as user?

- will I need to buy extra plugins for decent dating site?

I will appreciate any help here,

And of course any help with the installation will be gladly welcomed, (I use servint.net as host),

Thanks,

Kobi

If your install bombed, then who is your host?  That is question 1 as Dolphin does not work on all, or even close to MOST hosting companies servers.  It takes a certain set up within the server as it is an extremely pliable software and yes it is worth it.  How about you tell us the errors you received on install and we can help you along, but first tell us where you tried to install it.

Hi Mydatery,

I "revealed" my host at the first post - www.servint.net, I use VPS.

the first error I had was to install xslt, so I went to check all the installation requirements.

the java I have on server is:

db4-java.i386                            4.2.52-7.3.el4         base
gcc4-java.i386                           4.1.2-42.EL4           base
java-1.4.2-gcj-compat.noarch             1.4.2.0-27jpp          base
java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-devel.noarch       1.4.2.0-27jpp          base
openoffice.org2-javafilter.i386          1:2.0.4-5.7.0.6.0      update

it is OK?

SSH - I have SSH access.

PHP.INI - this is the respond from my host:

1.register_globals - Use of this directive is discouraged for it allows insecure coding.

2.safe_mode - When this is turned on, PHP checks to see if the owner of the current script matches the owner of the file to be operated on by a file function or its directory in effect preventing unauthorized access of files/directories. It is probably better to leave it on.

3.exec() - It is probably okay to use this, but when user-supplied data is passed to this function, make sure to use escapeshellarg() or escapeshellcmd() to prevent users from executing arbitrary commands.

Look scary to me :), it is ok to make all these changes considering I have other site on the same server?

extensions and GD - I have all but xslt, I guess I have to install it by myself since the host didnt say he can enable it..

I also attached the cpanel details at the bottom.

Regarding the plugins, I have experience with drupal so I know core system and plugins relationship but I wonder how core dolphin is for dating? will I have to add plugin for any feature I want to have, or most of it is built-in?

Thanks a lot,

Kobi

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
