Settings for Visitors?

Hi!

What are the settings I need to make in 6.1.6 so that is a visitor comes to the site, and without signing up, would be able to browse profiles but not search them or view individual ones?

Just so they can get an idea of what types of photos people are uploading, but without reading their info.

Thanks!

You should be able to apply some of these settings via the permissions under the appropriate membership level under administration, settings, membership levels.

I agree although there's only so much you can control via the membership panel.  A combination of membership levels and turning on/off what controls the visitor can see via the 'fields builder' section, may help.  AntonLV has an interesting mod for sale that adds more control of what members can see based on a type of filtering method. Think of it as creating groups - for example call his drop-down box control "What are you most interested in:" and define the choices as Sports, Autos, Food, Exercise.  If your member selects Autos, then only the individual fields or blocks or even navigation buttons you assign Autos (by clicking a checkbox on the properties box) will show. It's a bit more expensive mod than the others but I know he put a lot of time in it.  Something to think about.  It will work on the search engine request you have too - but you'll have to get them to sign in so you can assign what level of visibility they will have of any blocks, fields or navigation buttons.

It's also a pretty advanced mod so he will do it for you. He charges a little for the install but in my opinion, it's worth the time plus you know it's a solid install.

All the best.

Thanks for the replies.

The Field Builder I'm sure will come into play, but I'm in the Menu Builder.  I understand there's some sort of setup so that things that are to the left of 'Register' and things that are to the right of it react differently.  I'm thinking this may be where the fix comes in.  Now I just have to figure out the proper set up.

'All Members' is what I'd like to display, but only for visitors who click 'Members' on the Top bar Menu.  They woulnd't be allowed to search for users and they can't view profiles or send messages or anything, but if they want to see the thumbnail list of users, that's fine.

Currently my menu tabs are :

My Account (with Unregister and My Membership)

My Mail (Write, Sent)

My Profile (Account Home, View my profile, edit my profile, Photos, customize my profile, private photos, my membership)

Profile View (Account Home, View Profile)

Home (account Home)

Members (All members, Search members, Online Members, Account Home)

Chat (account home)

Forums (account home, my flags, my topics)

Contacts (Account Home)

Please Register to

Memjoin

Memchat

Memforums

I assume the last ones were customized by someone.  But I do recall hearing that everything to the right of Please Register To will take any clicks straight to the join.php page.

I think I'm losing a lot of signups becuase people can't get an idea of what kind of users are inside, so I'd like to give them a peek.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
