Search result in 2 or 3 columns ?

Is there a way to have the extended search result in 2 or 3 columns on one page ?

Now there is one column which only fills 1/3 of the page, rest of the page is blank.

You can do the same as i showed you a while back. (outline view) for your other site.
all that is done with CSS all in one column
