Safari and iOS video issues

Safari does not have a large user base comparatively but it is the default browser for the Mac platform. IOS obviously is on millions of iPhones.

My (short) videos will not play on the iPhone or in Safari... but they do fine in the Chrome and Firefox desktop versions for Mac.

These same videos, however, can be uploaded and played in Safari via the Demo Version of Dolphin.

Latest versions of all programs and of Dolphin are in use here. 264 video is checked. The videos "appear" but do not play. The word "loading" also shows but the videos just hang there in Safari.

I see nothing in the site error logs. The only Safari specific errors are "unexpected css" errors pertaining to a particular button. I have the videos set to "autoplay" so no buttons are required to play them. I think...

I am running no extensions in my Safari desktop app. I also tried to change to "User Agent" to several other other browsers but that did not work, either.

I can upload and listen to Audio with no problems. I even have a program that can extract the videos from Safari and save them without an issue. iSkysoft iTube Studio.

Fastcomet hosts my server and I will head over there next. But I already asked them before and they had no ideas. Can anyone think of a solution to this frustrating issue?!? Does anyone here use Fastcomet and are your videos viewable in Safari and iOS? Browser or phone app?

Thank you in advance!

Is the H264 codec disabled under the Admin Panel => Modules => Flash Apps => [Video/Video Comments] => Settings? It needs to be enabled.

The .264 codec setting is checked in both places.

The browser error regarding  ".bx-btn" filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient(startColorstr='#ffffff', endColorstr='#e3e3e3', gradientType='0');

It's called an "unexpected css token". Could it cause Safari to gag?

I also set up a test site where the videos also fail for Mac Safari and iOS as well:

Thank you Nathan, for looking at this. Others possibly might have a similar issue and not be aware of it. Safari is less than 5% of the browser pie. It's also quite famous for not playing well with Adobe Flash.

The majority of disappointed users will not inform a site owner that there is a problem.

Seems the video source is never even loaded. Have you made any changes to the HTML5 module's files?

I just played the above video in Firefox for Mac and it worked fine. Don't tell me it fails in Windows, too. What platform are you on, my brother?

As for the HTML5 Module, I have not altered it as far as I recall. Should I try to upload it again, overwriting the other?

Can you think of any server setting which might cause this strange effect?

I'm testing it on Safari. Yes, please try to re-upload the HTML5 module's files and clear the cache. If you don't mind sending me a PM with your login details, I can also take a closer look.

I did replace the html5av module. Cleared all browser and dolphin caches. No love...

Good! I'll PM you within a few hours - just look at things when you have a moment.

Quick Update: Nathan kindly checked over the above mentioned site. Without delay, I might add. He suggested that a clean install might help. So, the link above is no longer valid at the present time.

This time I will allow the server host to install Dolphin. I will update things again very soon!

RESOLVED!

My former host, Fast Comet, was not able to fix this issue after more than a year of investigating and excuse making. All they could offer was a dedicated server which a small start-up site does not need.

My new and present host - TMD Hosting - had things working immediately. Video now restored on all platforms and browsers. On a shared server, I might add.

Readers, please do some testing on your own site. You may be surprised that certain users are not being served with your video content. In fact, they may have video without sound. These same unhappy users are not going to bother to write you an email explaining what a lame site you are operating. Nor should they.

Oh, a special thanks to Nathan Paton who leaped into action on the behalf of a total stranger.
