I would like to propose an enhancement to the forums on this site.... since you guys at Boonex seem to be playing around with things lately.
It would be nice to have 'Thread Prefixes". For those that may not be familiar with thread prefixes, they are optional descriptive keywords that are prepended to the title of your post titles.. and they are optional. Thread prefixes are very useful in searches, and sorting. They make information about a basic topic very easy to find.
A list of thread prefixes, is determined by the site admin, and forum users can elect to add a thread prefix to their post title, by selecting it from a drop down list. For instance, a list of thread prefixes for the D7 forum, might fo something like this: SUGGESTION: , MODIFICATION: , HOW TO: , INSTALLATION: , UPGRADING: , NEED HELP:, ..... etc... you get the idea. Then, the user just optionally selects a thread prefix from a drop down to be prepended to the thread title..... so instead of a thread title being 'Remove promo banner' .... it could be something like 'MODIFICATION: Remove Promo Banner'.
Over time, this makes it much easier to gather threads of a similar nature into one big heap, and will help site users find the information they are looking for. This will help the Boonex development team as well, because you will be able to quickly gather all 'SUGGESTION:' threads. This, of course, requires the forum users to actually use thread prefixes, but I think it would catch on quickly user will quickly understand that it will get their thread the appropriate attention.
It's better than sub forums in some respects, because you don't have to jump around between a bunch of different forums, All you'd have to to is select which threads to display.... 'All Threads' or 'Thread_Prefix' threads.
What say all? My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
would be nice to have a logical means of searching this site, and the little google engine that could down there at the bottom hidden amongst proudly being austraiian really is of not much use.

Good Idea !
But let's users to make prefix by themselves. We just need to post sticky post with available prefixes. Please can you prepare such post and I will make it sticky in 'Dolphin 7.0' forum?

It won't work that way Alex. If users can't select it from a drop down list next to the thread title when they are creating a post, no one will use prefixes, and it will never catch on. They have to see this feature every time they create a post, or they won't do it.

Agreed. It will not work unless it's right in front of their face. So HL is right. It must be a selectable list presented at time of posting.
And because no one sees anything that's not right under there nose....
Is the same reason why there should also be a BIG SEARCH BUTTON added right here as well.
