Howdy,
This has me totally confused.
Only some of the confirmation emails are being received. Okay - actually - only 1 right now. When I create new accounts, there are no issues and I get a confirmation email each time. But when a major client attempts to create an account, he gets no confirmation email. Yes, he checked his SPAM/JUNK folders.
He is using a gmail account (which i also used a gmail account) and on a Mac (I don't think that would be much difference) and the email that the confirmation is coming from is an email that he and I have used several times before to contact each other, so I wouldn't imagine that it would be blocking the FROM: email address.
I am using 7.1 beta1 right now cause I am scared to do the upgrade until I have everything like I want it first. I do realize that this is not the production copy, and I am only using it on a test server for now. Again, once everything is like I want it, I will attempt the upgrades. (while keeping my fingers crossed)
If anyone out there is kind enough to check it out for me and see if they get a confirmation email, or any suggestions as to what else we may try, I thank you in advance. The test site is located at http://mtsco.net

OK - i just had another person try to create a membership and it did not send a confirmation email to him either. He is also using a Mac, but a different email provider.
Also - the default options to send email confirmations was not working so i installed the Mandatory Confirmation by AntonLv.
I again created a new account and I am still receiving the email confirmations.

Because some email is going out and others are not, you need to check with your host on this.
Dolphin uses a php function to send emails. That function passes the email to the email server. It's is your hosts email server that actually sends the email, not dolphin.
If a email is rejected for some reason you may not know about it. If you host setup a primary email address for your domain that you can access with cpanals webmail then check it. That primary hosting account email address is where bounce back and delivery error emails will end up.
Or check with your host to see if any of your sites outbound email was rejected.

I joined your site.
Email was sent. I did receive it. It was in my spam folder. I have gmail. It was flagged as spam because the address your using as the sites email address which is a gmail address does not match the domain name of your site. So gmail thinks it could be possible fishing. You should be using a domain email address that matches your sites domain of mtsco.net and not a gmail address for the sites email.
Many destination email servers will reject the email because of this. I suspect that is what is happening.

Thank you so much Deano for your response - it makes me feel a lot better knowing that it is something that I personally can fix - err - with a lil assistance. Should I change the email address in the header.inc.php file? caredesign.net |

Only the bug report address is in header.inc.php. That address is where dolphin sends bug reports such as database errors. It's not the main sites address.
The sites address is in admin. under settings->basic settings
The sites mail from address i think is the one that needs to be changed. But it's best both of those have an address that matches your domain.

both emails were the same so did not notice the difference - thanks for pointing that out for me. caredesign.net |
ok, this is starting to get to me - I have changed the email address, and when sending a forced email confirmation, it is still only coming to the accounts that I create. those new accoutns do show the proper email address with the domain name. caredesign.net |
Now you need to talk to your host.
See if any of the emails going out are being rejected.
I have no other suggestions.

I have a dedicated server. And although I see other messages that were rejected (i purposely used an invalid email address with a new account) I do not see any rejections from the email confirmations that were created by other users. caredesign.net |
I gotta ask - do I have to install and enable the smtp mailer module? caredesign.net |
I gotta ask - do I have to install and enable the smtp mailer module?
No. Thats only needed for sending emails out through a different SMTP server. One thats on a separate server. Or if you needed to send email out through your hosts SMTP server instead of yours. 99.9% of most people do not require it.
Can you force the confirmation email back out for the account i created? I am not going to be able to provide much more help. I am out of ideas. This has to be a mail delivery problem so you may need a server expert not a dolphin expert.

force back out = sned another confirmation email with new changes? - if so - its on its way caredesign.net |
Yea. I got it. Even tho the addresses are correct now and gmail no longer thinks its a phishing attempt, it still ended up in my spam folder.
I am out of ideas.

thanks for your time and assistance - now i gotta find another mod of yours to purchase caredesign.net |
LOL. I have quite a few. I just updated 3 more in the last couple of days for dolphin 7.1. So 14 of my mods are updated to 7.1 but i still have another 6 to do.

just thought i would add this lil bit of info - before asking about the smtp mailer, the smtp mailer was installed, but not enabled - I enabled it and used the secure settings and that is when you recieved the forced email confirmation. I completely uninstalled the smtp mailer and now even the earlier accounts that would recieve emails, now do not receive the emails when forcing another confirmation. caredesign.net |

Then you may need to run it. The only way that would happen is if php is not properly setup to send email which would be unusalule. It may be some configuration with your SMTP server as well.
Perhaps dolphin_jay, Zarcon or Nathan Paton here who deal with servers may have some idea what is going on.

LOL - OK, first off - See that button to the upper right that says New Topic? - well, I think they should add a popup on mouseover, CLEAR THE DOGGONE CACHE.
Well, I called the server company to see if everything on the smtp was straight, and it showed that it is - even to the point of him receiving the email and it not going to his spam folder when he created an account.
So - i am now just gonna create as many email addresses on as many different providers and see which ones do not get confirmation messages. As it stands right now, gmail is iffy, works for some but not for others; @me.com - negative; @mac.com - negative.
caredesign.net |
OK, I am going to attempt to close this thread - or mark it as solved.
Come to find out - the persons not available to receive their emails were attempting to do so using a mobile device. Once going to an actual computer and logging in to their email using a web browser (for gmail as an example), the messages were in their spam folder. Thanks again for your help deanos.
