SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host

I've set up my outlook and can send and receive with no errors.  I have copied and pasted all settings into the SMTP mailer in Dolphin, but every time I get  SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

I've even copied and pasted the password from dolphin back to outlook and that works OK in outlook. I have checked (and changed again and again for changes sake) and I still get the error message.

Dolphin is hosted with the same company as the SMTP host.

Anyone had this before?

**UPDATE: no matter what SMTP server settings I put in there, whether they exist or not, I get the same message!

If Dolphin is on the same host with SMTP server try to set SMTP hostname to localhost

One more thing to check is SMTP port, be default it is 25, but maybe different.

I tried all that - no dice I'm afraid. Ive tried all the usual ports. I cannot log in to any SMTP server anywhere from dolphin.

Have asked ISP if there is any barrier to my hosting directory accessing an SMTP server, awaiting response.

I use it that way and it works perfectly.

1st, are you using the email server on the same server your hosting the dolphin on?

If so, make sure you set

SMTP server name or IP address:  localhost

If not, then you'll need to get the details from the mail server. It sets up much like your own email client.

Here is how I got mine to work, and it works great now...

it works every time for me. I guess what got me was the Name of the server. I tried local host, by my hosting has a name for it so I used that and make sure that override thing was filled out too then it all started working .

Enable SMTP mailer: enable
SMTP authentication (Is your SMTP server requires username and password?):enable
SMTP username (only if SMTP authentication is enabled):webmaster@mysite.com
SMTP password (only if SMTP authentication is enabled):my email password
SMTP server name or IP address:ip-numbers-ip.secureestserver.com
SMTP server port number (25 - default, 465 - for secure ssl connection, 587 - for secure tls connection):25
Is your SMTP server requires secure connection: not secure
'From' name of the message: Mysite.com
Override default sender email address:webmaster@mysite.com
Attach every outgoing email all files from 'modules/boonex/smtpmailer/data/attach/' folder:

https://www.wormly.com/test_smtp_server

I use that site to test email servers I CONFIGURE.  If I did it right the 1st time, this works.

Beats telneting in to test.

Eliminate your settings before beating yourself up over getting dolphin to work!

I used wormly and it tested fine, then I transferred the info to dolphin smtp mailer and it didn't work I initially used the settings from wormly as I knew  had the right settings but I did try all including localhost and all other combinations and it didn't work, there must be a bug in the dolphin, but then again maybe not as some others aren't having issues

If you know the host settings are correct and the smtp server your trying to connect to is not your own server than it is most likley a firewall issue. Your host may be blocking outbound connections to the port specified.

I called the hosting company and did what they said, unchecked authentication and still didn't work.  she doesn't see what the firewall has anything to do with it.

do i really need the smtp mailer? what would be the use for it?  am i able to uncheck Enable SMTP mailer and still use it?

thanks

problem solved i used relay-hosting.secureserver.net instead of smtpout.secureserver.net  here is the copy of a post on another site.

I notice your scripts are making references to our ‘smtpout.secureserver.net’ relays. These relays are only for use with email accounts that are sending out through third party mail clients such as Outlook. If you want to be sending out mail from your hosting account with us, your scripts need to be configured to use ‘relay-hosting.secureserver.net’ instead.

i hope this helps others

I'm having the same issue here. I want to set up a remote smtp server. Currently my host is banning me from sending mail because they see it as spam. So I need an external smtp server configuration to enable mail notifications. Any ideas Anyone?
