Resizing images

Hello!

I don´t understand or find a manual or something like this for resizing images to a max size of 2 mb or someting like this.

So mobile users can try to upload images to the Dolphin platform, but when the file (size/dimension) is to big, let´s say bigger than 2 b) the file won´t upload because it is not resizing.

What is the idea behind this?

Thanks!

Greetings

Klaus

You can set resizing pixels in the photo module settings.  You won't resize to a file size but resizing to a set pixels will accomplish close to the same thing.  It does keep aspect ratio; so you will see a width and a height but it won't screw up the aspect ratio.

I'm chucking in a few extra things here because they may be helpful.

If I recall, upload limits are actually controlled by PHP and you can change them in your PHP.INI file. From memory, 2meg is the default, but you can increase this to 3 or 4 meg if you wish to.

Dolphin automatically resizes images to the dimensions you set in the photos mod as discussed by Geek Girl. Setting the size to 700 wide and 700 high for example, means no photo will be more than 700 in any one direction. As GG says, the aspect ratio isn't changed.

From what I can work out, the height of the Main Photo in pixels is the height the original photo will be resized to.  Thus, if a person clicks "View Original", they will see it as 2000 pixels high or whatever you choose. I actually delete the originals because I don't think any of my members need to see an enlarged photo. As these photos hog disk space it's worth considering.

You can also adjust the compression, but this is in the software code. It's set for 85%, but 80 is considered the norm. By reducing it to 80, the photo quality is hardly affected, yet you will save a few gigabytes on a big site. It's not only about saving space, smaller photos load faster and place less strain on your server.
