Regarding RMS and hosting

I'm planning on migrating a large site (40,000+ users) from another software package to D7.  I'm currently hosting the site on a Media Temple VPS because I've been with them a long time and never had issues.  I was planning on not leveraging the video/sounds feature of D7 since the current site does not have that and I've already identified all the steps required to remove those features completely from D7. However, now I'm having second thoughts about that and thinking maybe I should add those new features, but I need some feedback. My two concerns are:

1) Since Media Temple doesn't support RMS (that I know of), I'm going to have to install this myself, no problem from my end. My main concern is how much bandwidth/CPU does this thing use?  Can it be throttled so that my bandwidth doesn't get eaten up rendering the site inaccessible?

2) Second concern: Should I consider hosting the new site elsewhere that supports RMS and already has it installed, such as hostforweb.com or joombyte.com, or does it make sense to stay with my current provider and I will support the RMS installation/maintenance myself?

Thanks in advance...

Well, in your questions, all I can do is offer personal opinion. So here it goes:

1) The amount of CPU/Bandwidth would of course depend on how many users were utilizing this feature at the same time. So without knowing these numbers, its hard to give a definite answer on this. I do not run my own RMS, so I am not aware of any "throttling" techniques.

2) For me, I really don't have enough time to spend managing a server at this time. So I decided to go with a Host that specifically was designed for Dolphin sites as well as offered RMS service. This keeps everything provided from 1 service provider. I would assume you would need to take into consideration "how much money you want to spend", "how much time do you have". For me it was easier to give this task to someone else :)

Zarcon, thanks for your answers.  You've been a big help in my other posts and I do appreciate it.  I would rather not have to maintain the RMS myself.  I think on average I would have about 50 users logged on per hour, and taking in account overlaps, probably 10 users connected to RMS at a time.  I don't know if that's considered high/med/low usage in terms of RMS.

Regarding hosting, do have any opinions on hostforweb.com or joombyte.com (and also, are you affiliated with any of these companies)?

Thanks again!

No problem MMF. As far as the stats you provided, the "users online" would play no part in bandwidth to your RMS and 10 using it should not take up much at all, probably rate that in LOW usage. As far as myself, I use Joombyte for both hosting and RMS, but of course you should choose whichever you like :)

LOL, and no, I am not affiliated with either of those companies :) I'm just your average Dolphin user.
