Recovering admin password in D7

I somehow lost my admin access to my D7 beta by deleting the cache files.  I have no idea why this would have happened, but does anyone have a recovery technique yet?  I don't think the D6 ones will work.  I tried going to one of those MD5 password generator sites, then pasteing it into the admin record in the profiles table, but that didn't work.   If someone has an approach, you can probably save me another re-install.   I already mentioned this on another thread, but since this will surely come up again, I have reposted under its own thread - I just wish I wasn't always the first person to break things here :-(

Is all the admin info still in your database?  ( 'Profiles' table, ID 1)

D5 password generator sites...those sites scare me, you give them to much info and once you do how do you expect to keep your site safe? And you bet they copied all you give and saved it...hmmmm not a smart move hon, stay away from those type of sites.Cool

Not really worried about someone stealing the password to my beta- there is really nothing in the site to steal- plus you could just use that password to get in, then immediately change it.   Too busy this week to deal with it - may do a fresh install on a different domain this weekend.  Someone had to be the first idiot to lose an admin password so this procedure will need to be developed anyway.  If anyone cares to take a shot at a script or procedure, this will surely come up again.

Ok...

Here's idiot number 2...

I can't access my admin area as password lost.  Is it possible to use the string in the database?

Thanks

This is a very old topic...in older 7.0.2 times all you needed to do is go into your site, place Admin in the log in area and click "Forget the password" button...it would send you a new password to your email...

So you can access your database manually..... have you tried putting in a blank password and tried logging in or alternatively join you site as a testuser make a note of the password and then copy and paste the testuser password into the admin password field.

Do you realize that you are replying to a two year old post?
