CentOS already comes with one that works well. iptables. It's what i use. Pretty much all linux distros have it. It's like the industry standard.

It can be managed with webmin.

I may use iptables.  I was looking at the ones that can do a bit more, examining packets etc.  Installed one that took my server completely down; that is one way to secure a server LOL, prevent ANYONE, including the admins, from being able to access it.

If you really need too secure, too good firewall you will need a hardware firewall.

For me iptable is fine

so much to do....

Yes, I contacted the company I am leasing the dedi from but can not afford the fees at this time.  I think I will just go ahead and set up iptables.  I am not sure what happened with the one I installed, I had it on the minimum default config and just wanted to test it out.

CSF is a free frontend for IPTables. In other words you can use IPTables without CSF but not the other way around.

IPTables + CSF + mod_security is hard to beat.

If it is just a frontend, then shouldn't that be iptables + mod_security is hard to beat?  I am just going to set up iptables using the command line.

I like CSF so in my opinion IPTables + CSF + mod_security is hard to beat.
