Random quotes suggestion for D7

It's look like random quotes features is being given less promince in Dolphin 7 / Spunky, I have a suggestion on the join up page why not add a field for "my random quotes" this would automatically display  on the front page *subject to approval from admin if required* and the author would be a clickable link into their profile and the "random quote" could click into a random quotes page where other members could vote on their favourites/share quotes etc

Random quotes can also be used for overheards/funny thoughts/truisms etc

This would create more user-generated content which is key to building up togetherness and stickabillty for your community...

Better yet, why not add the possibility of using an HTML Block with random images for the quotes ... giving the site admin freedom of choice whether to use plain ol' text, something fancy, etc. An HTML Block would be very simple to do and that could be made to look really spiffy if it was possible to add images with text as opposed to just the text itself. We use random quotes right here (right side, under the news) with dolphin in an HTML block and that looks very nice indeedy ....

I don't think random quotes as a html block is an efficient use of space...

Well, yeah, you're right, but ....

Almost nobody is using a modem anymore to be online and in this day and age of servers with hundreds of gigs of hard disk space (standard), super fast 4000+ mhz processors (standard), oodles of ram from 2 to 8 GB (cheap), etc. not all of us are building communities that are "space efficient" or plain. Some of us are going for the "bling bling" effect too, since this has been proven over many years to generate tons of members in dating portals, video portals, gaming portals, media blogs, etc. etc. etc.

.

Our server has 750 GB hard disk space, 8 GB ram, an AMD 6000+ 64 bit processor and with that in mind, I could care less if our html block uses up less than 100 KB with its 24 quotes. If every member had a block like that, for only 5 quotes, the required space would only be around 25 KB. That's a drop in a bucket these days! It may not be efficient, but it sure looks very nice on the front page and for that, the "inefficiency" is well worth it. You gotta know where to trade off looks for efficiency these days, and the daily quotes is a perfect area to do so ....

I wasn't on about that kind of space, I was on about design kind of space *just my thoughts*
