RSS News Feed with Outline integration in 7.1
Modules2Buy let me know they have no plans on updating the RSS News Feed module.
The next logical step in the progression of the RSS News Feed module is to have the articles post automatically in Outline. Upon clicking on the article the content is displayed on the Dolphin website where users can comment on the post which would show up in the Outline as well and increase social interaction.

Modules2Buy did a great job of their module. It's unfortunate they do not have plans to update/upgrade the module. A high standard has been set for the next developer to deliver a great RSS News module.

The job for this module is posted here. |
I increased the budgeted amount. I'm really looking forward to this module being developed. |
Is there anyone else interested in having this module once it's developed? |

That sounds like it would be very useful.
Only thing is - if this is possible - is if this is legal.
RSS is designed to display the feed, but when clicked it should open up the site it is taken from.
I think this is a legal thing? might be wrong in this but I think this is the case...

Yes :-)
so long as its legal!
|
Yes, it is completely legal as long as the source is cited.
In fact, a link would be provided to the source of the content at the bottom of the Dolphin hosted page which will ensure that all parties would benefit from sharing the RSS feed and link back to the source. The sources of this content will appreciate the additional links to their website.
|
I thought it was legal so long as the RSS link actually opens the article on the original site.
This mod would be to act as an 'importer' right? So the content is kinda 'ripped' into the dolphin site?
unless I read it wrong...
|
not sure how easy this is to do in outline though.
Outline is based on timeline / wall and posts user generated content.
RSS would not enter database as user generated content...
|
Slight adjustment and the mod works for me in 7.1 |
Were you able to get the RSS articles to come up in Outline as well Daihlo? |
My thought was that if the RSS news feed could post in Outline similar to the way News is submitted by an Admin is posted in Outline with the main difference being that this would be an automated process. |
This sounds very interesting. Stuart There are none so blind as those that will not see. |
No. News feed works as it did before with 7.0.x
Outline feeds off the 'Wall' activity database for content which only displays user generated content.
Hence regular News and Articles also not showing in Outline/Timeline.
Now... if you could get the Newsfeed module to be available for site members to use to add their own RSS feeds, then limit it via membership to admin only, then you could work it into outline...
Could ask someone like Deano if he could take a look, might take that budget of yours thought to do it!

GREAT idea!
Deano let me know he doesn't have the time to work on this project right now, but I'm sure there is someone who could pick this up.

I downloaded and installed the RSS News Feed module.
I've noticed when I've attempted to add a new RSS most of the time I receive an error stating "URL RSS NOT CORRECT". I know the URL RSS's are correct and I am able to copy/paste them into a new browser tab and they come up with no problem.
Does anyone know why this may be happening and how to correct the problem?
