OK, I see that there is a new RMS Media Server available for 7.1.0 for Linux.
Questions:
Can you still use that older 7.0.9 RMS Media Server with 7.1.0? Pro's and Con's if any if you do?
Is there going to be a new Windows and MAC RMS Media Server released any time soon for 7.1.0 ?
What are the differences between the 2 Versions?

I have no idea what you are asking. I'm just looking in the Other Downloads Section and I see this available.

Yes, my demo (http://mynewbeetle.net/7.1/m/chat/home/) site has been using the 7.0.9 RMS I have.

will the new RMS work with 7.0.9? |
There appears to be a HUGE difference in File Size between the Old and New Versions, what are we missing out on by using the Old Version.
Old = 33mb
New = 70mb
|
maybe the fonts are bigger... |
Hey Newton27 - how did you get your videos to play? I keep getting "error processing file", so mine don't work. Thanks for any info you could give. |

LOL!!!

So nobody has a serious answer to these questions? |
/lib/xuggle-xuggler-5.4.jar <--- 40MB
let’s you decode, manipulate and encode pretty much any type of video you want from Java or C++, either as a file, or as a Flash streaming video.

I'll take a best guess.
Our older version only encoded for playback in our regular default audio/video player.
Since the addition of HTML5 player, the ffmpeg was updated changed for this feature.
I noticed large audio files actually do take a minute to encode using the new ffmpeg; files like 200MB in size.

The videos have played for some time now if your speaking of my SVN demo site, the site I used the patch for 7.0.9 to 7.1 stopped processing videos and audio files and I still have not figured out why..

will it?

I submitted a Ticket about 3 days ago and still don't have an answer. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy after spending $800.00 on Licences. |
And what was the ticket for ? yes the new rms will work on dolphin 7.0.9 but whats the point if you don't have the new html5 video player on 7.0.9...
i guess if you are running 7.0.9 and 7.1 on the same server then it would be wise to replace it...

I'm not asking about using the NEW RMS on the OLD 7.0.9 Dolphin, I'm asking about using the OLD RMS on the NEW 7.1.0 Dolphin
What is the difference, and what if any features do you sacrfice by using the OLD RMS with the NEW Dolphin
When is the Windows Version of the New 7.1.0 RMS going to be released. (I run my RMS on a Windows Dedicated Server)

You can install both versions of RMS side-by-side. Just edit the RTMP and HTTP ports (from the RMS install documentation) for the new version. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |

I would love to install the New Version, only problem is they haven't released a Windows Installation File for the NEW RMS for 7.1.0.

RMS 7.1.0 - is based on Red5 0.8 - this is only version we was able to make video comments work with
RMS 7.1.0 - should work with Dolphin 7.0.9
Old RMS 7.0.4 - should partially work with Dolphin 7.1, particularly there are problems with video comments

Nathan is correct, you can use them side by side. As it turns out though, the new RMS also works fine for the old 7.04-.09 sites so why bother? Just install the new one and use them for all your sites....

Are you aware of a file size limitation in the current ffmpeg?

i just did a 236mb video with it... http://dolphinbeta.com/m/videos/view/Dust-to-Glory-720 sign up there if you like and try your vids out there. i have it set to 512mb limit. trying 470mb video next.
Edit: just did a 475mb video http://dolphinbeta.com/m/videos/view/rbsp-launch-1080p seemed to work ok.
if i set bit rate on 512 or 2048 the video is the same size so it seems the video converts at 512 no matter what settings you pick.

I'm having the same problem. All settings work when checked with http://www.boonex.com/rms.html. Has anyone determined the cause of this? Possible bug?

OK so it appears the OLDE RMS needs a facelift to run both 7.0.9 and 7.1 I posted my issues with the comment section being at issue and clearly this is the issue. I am sorry that I had to find out this way and not a direct response from AlexT about the known issue! So if I have an RMS server on 7.0.9 working for that version what is the process for updating or giving a facelift to that RMS server so both with operate on the one?
And so it is on the record so to speak what are the pro's and con's of such a decision to run one media server for two sites? Are there any? And if there are MAJOR reasons not to do this please explain. One would conclude with traffic to both it could be an issue.

Can I simply overwrite the files for the old RMS server with the latest download of the RMS server? Csampson |
