RE: @All: Stop driving threads off-topic. Locked.

Mr. Moderator, may I remind you that the thread you locked was in the 'Fun and Foo'  forum.

Is it now your job to define what is Fun, and what is Foo?

You're right, it was in the wrong forum. What a silly goose I am.

Unlocked. Moved. Re-locked.

Edit: I moved it to General and Presale, not Disputes.

It wasn't a dispute.  It was a question posed to the community by a member of the community.  In my opinion the OP of the topic knew exactly where he was posting the question and from what I saw it was not in the wrong forum.

Now on the question of hijacking threads I agree that we should not hijack threads.  The forums I have been on usually will warn the person that attempts to hijack the thread to not do so and start their own topic.  If they continue to try and hijack the thread then that one person is dealt with. I have never seen a topic locked due to hijacking.

You may want to read a thread before you tamper with it.

It was perfectly on topic. Question was:

Does a dev have to refund or what are my other options?

I actually see it was the OP that sent the thread off into the licensing discussion - my apologies, I missed that post amongst all the others - suddenly a thread about a market refund became a discussion about licenses and encryption (which kind of is off-topic, but oh well) and exploded.

I'll unlock it, but I feel it's already run most of its course. In short, official policy on here is that a refund isn't issued simply because the third-party service doesn't like your site. I'd like the developer to consider this, but they're not required. As for selling your market spoils, that's up to the license, same with Dolphin licenses. Until/unless BoonEx decides differently, that's how I have to roll with it.

I'm not a developer but I appreciate all the hard work they do, especially whilst I am learning about php & how to do these things myself. If I was a developer I would be reluctant to issue a refund if my product does exactly what it is advertized to do but a member has purchased it & can't use it through no fault of mine. It leaves the door open for people to request refunds but still have use of the product. I think that's how the topic of encryption & licensing, etc started. I work with independent musicians & it's like them selling songs & someone wanting their money back because they didn't like a song. Unfortunately it's the nature of ANY digital product, the principal is the same, provided it does EXACTLY what it is advertized to do then the onus is on the purchaser to ensure it meets their needs & more importantly, where possible THEY meet the products requirements.

Note to developers: It may be an idea to add a helpful note to Paypal modules reminding members to make sure they meet Paypal's content guidelines prior to purchasing. Also to the other modules, similar notes if their are any possible issues that prevent ANY buyer from using the module.

Just my thoughts, Nathan! :)

MY point was that the thread was in the 'Fun and Foo' forum, and Mr Moderator had no business moving it or closing it...unless the OP asked him to, and I doubt that was the case.  The thread was clearly not a dispute because no vendor name was mentioned, and no specifics were given about the module.  Other than a moderator butting in when he shouldn't have, I really don't give a shit that the thread is closed.

It was the 'Fun & Foo' forum..... thread hijacking rules do not apply.

With that said, What's everybody's favorite vacation spot? Should the moderator close this thread?  Should I be punished for hijacking my own thread?

If a thread is in the wrong forum, chances are it'll be moved around. For example, if somebody asks a question about the Groups module, and posts in the Ray forum, it's being beamed over to one of the Dolphin forums. Or I suppose all questions should be left in the Tips and Tricks forum, eh? :p

In this case I moved it to Générale and Presale. It wasn't a thread about dogs or Nancy Pelosi - it was a market question that didn't fit anywhere else. And no, I don't feel like policing the threads in Fun and Foo - it's where the random and off-topic discussions go to live out their lives. And I have a House marathon to resume.
