Questions Regarding Joiners/Spammers

Hi:

So, since I'm not as savvy as Developers, I have a question regarding joiners.  I notice some people join (mostly spammers) without an IP address.  The only time I can block them is when they try to sign back in.  I use Deanos Tools to see who has recently tried to join multiple times, then check their IP at stopforumspam.com. If I find they are a spammer, I remove all spam messages with Deanos tools using their ID # and it works.  I then go to Access Management and enter their IP.  Once I do that, I then remove them in the Members area in Administration.  I choose the option: Delete spammer, which should also take this to stopfurmspam.com.

I know this is the long way to work around. I've been getting spam joiners from France lately. I used Access Management to block the whole country for now, but I don't want to continue doing that.  I have Akismet and Stopforumspam API, but it still doesn't catch all of them.

My Questions:

1.  Is there anyone who has developed a module that does not allow someone to join without an IP address.

2.  Will question #1 make a difference or Am I getting this all wrong?

3.  If it will not make a difference, how do spammers join and what else can I do to stop them?

I've also purchased Andrews "Logical Captcha" which has worked amazingly for a long time.  In fact, it blocks most spammers.  The ones currently joining seem to be doing this manually (which is a waste of time to me bc my site is NOT that big).

I'm just tired of my website being a site for spammers.  Here's the deal.  More than HALF my members (which is not much) have been spam joiners.

Okay, so I know I've said a lot, but I think this is a fight we can win eventually.  Am I wrong?

Thanks and I hope someone answers my questions.

Racquel-

Are you using Deano's Anti Spam tool? It should work.

The other free service I use is CloudFlare.com

I have disabled the Dolphin spam in 7.1 and just use Deano's stuff.

The other tool I like, even though the developer appears to no longer support is the Join Monitor. Dolphin Jay can fix for you if you purchase.

I feel like I now have complete control of my site, whereas I used to get a hundred or more spammers per day..

Also, I would suggest 7.1.4.

The other tool I  bought from Deano is the Drop Down For filling in the birthday.

This is a great tool and we had have had nobody get hung up on the calendar anymore...

How do I know this? I use the join monitor... :D

Hey Thanks. I was going to ask about that that bc I saw it in the market under the spam prevention folder.  I have Deanos Tools, but don't have the Deanos Antispam.  How long have you had it?

When you say you've disabled the Dolphin spam, are you talking about the Antispam tools?  I have Akismet and Stopforumspam API.  Is disabling this a requirement when you install the Deanos Antispam tool?

Thanks!

If you're looking for something that is simple but very effective, have a look at my Bot Stopper.

http://www.boonex.com/m/bot-stopper-automatic-spam-fighter

All you need to do is enter words or phrases used by spam bots and the module does the rest. It not only blocks bots coming from the specific IP address but goes much further. If your site is highly infected by bots you will see noticible improvements within a day.

Sure fire way of stopping Bots, a Human question, anti spam tool of your choice, Captcha, and have them confirm their email.  I have no robot spam joining my site.

No. It is not a requirement. He just shuts off dolphins because he prefers mine. If you don't disable dolphins built in filtering, mine will only catch what manages to get by those filters.

Mine has lots of filtering options. The database is used by only dolphin sites also using the mod for greater accuracy. And a advanced bot detection system that catches nearly 100% of all bots. Bots usally do not get by my filters anymore. Only human spammers will have a chance. The bot detection is that accurate. It also features a homograph attack detection system which is a technique used by spammers to get by keyword filters by using UTF8 characters that look like standard Latin characters but are not so the keyword filter can't catch it. But my filters detect that little trick.
