I was playing about with profile maps this morning - added my api key, etc. It asked for the profile fields but I don't have a complete address, so I entered "zip" - will that work? Ran the updater for the profiles but it just hung so I never got to the "update cities" part. The address in D7 is in several cities - zip and city, and street address if you have made that field. How do you enter multiple fields where it asks what field you use for address? |
I'm not sure how you set multiple fields, I used zip for my site and that's the only required location field we have. |
OK, so it works for zip - thanks for the info, but that won't give a very specific map. The zip code I think has to be in a separate field to make it work with other mods out there. Maybe Boonex can tell us how this is supposed to work. What if you have zip, city, and street address in separate fields/ How do you enter them? Separated by commas? Please let us know. |
Zip can narrow the location down to a pretty specific area. As a member would you really want to put in all the other address info so someone can get driving directions to your front door? I know I wouldn't. |
That's fine, you wouldn't, but a retail store or business certainly would want people to find their front door. A zip code isn't a "specific area" at all - mine is 10 square miles with tens of thousands of people. The whole purpose of Google maps is to find a specific location. You do realize when you make one of these "everything is fine" comments, Boonex never addresses the issue, don't you? |
I didn't say everything was fine, I was just trying to discuss if placing the exact address was a wise thing to do for sites. I do see your point in that some people can benefit greatly while others would not want to implement such specific searching for google maps. Maybe someone from boonex will reply and tell you how to handle that situation but from the looks of the field it appears only 1 field is used to do location mapping. Grab the googe api docs and you can see if they will allow multiple fields to be used. Or you may have to create a specific field, maybe a text area where they can type the entire address to get the result. |
