Question about plugins

My background is mostly HTML/CSS. I once ran a blogsite using MovableType as the foundation and felt comfortable customizing the site to my needs with my skills and learning how to use MT tags. I'm now looking to build a small social networking site and am checking out Dolphin.

What I need to do is make a lite version of my main Dolphin powered site. It looks like I need a plugin that sends/retrieves information from the database and enables the content to be displayed in a lighter form on another page away from my main site. So in order to do this I am essentially looking at having to learn PHP? I'm trying to get an idea of how much PHP coding knowledge I will need in order to accomplish what I need with my website.

On a side note there are many things included with Dolphin I don't really need at this time like Blogs, shoutbox etc. How difficult is it to turn off or remove those abilities from my website.

Thanks for any help.

if its just the content you are asking about, then essentially a php include should make that happen for you, if you are talking about actually making it an interactive concept, dont know that this would be possible with this application. i am sure there are others who will chime in and point you in the right direction.

these are easily deactivated from your admin area. note the term deactivated, not removed or deleted, so in the future, if the need arises that you would want an additional feature, you would simply drag and drop the item back into its appropriate position on the page.

I'm basically wanting to know if Dolphin will require me to learn PHP and if so just how much PHP. I'm use to customizations via CSS and HTML as well as grabbing code snippets here and there or reverse engineering stuff. At the moment I am trying to figure how to make a lite version of my main site for mobile users.

A mobile mod has been written and available.

As for "if you need to learn php ?"

That just depends on what you want to learn or not...

After reading your post a few times, I think what you are looking for is the Mobile Mod
