Yes, I know Barracuda is not offered anymore. My question is where is BoonEx's proof/source of the information they state on that page about directory scripts being bad, specifically where has Google stated that it penalizes websites with directory scripts?

Link Directory have been known to not be a suitable means of building a site for some time now as they were simply a display of popularity between webmasters and not demonstrative of how live a site was with actual end users.  Beyond that, link directories have become notorious for being nothing more than spam type links that shoot users all over the net without ever bringing them to a final site that they are actually interested in.  In fact,  these link directories often end up with bounce rates over 90% as people just keep bouncing from one domain to the next in search of something and never actually find it.

Best option:  Kill the link directories if you have them and move on in the world of SEO to items that will truly demonstrate how useful your site is to the end users who are searching for your market niche item/site type.
