Does anyone know if it is possible to put a specific forum group in a block on the homepage or another page? I know you can put a block with all forum posts in a block, of course, but I have an application where I would like to be able to put a specific topic in a block without showing the other posts. Would a mod for this be difficult? Ideally if it could be put in a php block it would give the flexibility to do this with more than one forum group. This would be pretty cool if anyone knows how to do it. |
very easy with the rss feed |
Ahh - ok, I feel stupid. Thanks though. |
Maybe I was too quick to call myself stupid on this one. Could someone tell me the exact url you put in the RSS block to make this work. I am trying to get this forum into a block:
http://world-startups.com/forum/forum/Startup-Business-Ideas-2012-10-31-0.htm
Note that that is from the permalink and has today's date in it, so I don't think that can be right. When you click on the little RSS link, it starts to download a file, so that can't be right either.
What do I put in the RSS block to make this forum display in a block?

Prolaznik - I tried that - it just spins - plus it has today's date. Even if it did work, would it work tomorrow? I didn't think RSS feeds had an .htm extension anyway. Can anyone clear this up? |
Somebody here must know this. All I want to do is put a specific form in a block, and all I want to know is the correct url to do this. Has anyone done this on one if their sites? |
Hi Rob,
I had this problem with adding Forum RSS Feeds to a Mod I installed, by adding the RSS URL direct to the database after creating the block worked for me.

Handsconnect,
Thanks for responding. I assume I am still going to have that "spinning" problem that is common here, but right now I am not even to that point. I need to know what url to try. For this forum should it be this one:
http://world-startups.com/forum/forum/Startup-Business-Ideas-2012-10-31-0.htm
I am a little thrown but that date in this url, which is now yesterday's date, and also by the fact that when I click the RSS feed on the forums it tries to download a file - which is not the RSS behavior I am used to. Usually they launch the RSS readers where you can add them if you want. If I could just get verification of the right link, that would be a start.
I thought this would be easy, but it doesn't look like it is going to be.

The url provided was correct http://world-startups.com/forum/rss/forum/Startup-Business-Ideas-2012-10-31.htm
It's the URL that is use when you click the RSS Link you see at your site in the forums. Go to your forum link. http://world-startups.com/forum/forum/Startup-Business-Ideas-2012-10-31-0.htm then look to the right. You will see a RSS Feed link next to the Permalink link. That link is the RSS url.
It loads fine when entered in the url of a browser as any other RSS feed does. But not in the RSS block. I can't explain that one. I will have to conduct more tests, but i do know the URL is correct.

Thanks Deano, I guess I assumed that since it didn't work in the block, it must be the wrong url, but it sounds like it doesn't work for anyone. Is that correct? Does anyone have a forum topic working in a block? If anyone has any solutions please let me know.
p.s. Wonder if burning a feed on Feedburner would work? - not the approach I would prefer.

no clue why it doesn't work for your, here is a rss block on browse.php page
|
Ok. I found out what is going on with my site.
For some reason the .htaccess file in module/boonex/forum is not working correctly on my site. You may be having the same issue.
So try this url for your rss feed instead.
{SiteUrl}forum/?action=rss_forum&forum=Startup-Business-Ideas-2012-10-31 https://www.deanbassett.com |
Deano, this worked perfectly. Thanks for your help. |
