Promotional Video

So I have a two part question

1) I developed a promotional video and posted it to youtube ....i would love to hear peoples feed back on what they think of it... I've had a lot of feed back from friends and family but find their opinions tend to lean more towards not wanting to hurt your feelings. so I also am leery when its overly positive. so far people over 65 (yes my parents) think its too fast of a pace and need to be slowed down and the font needs to increase everyone one else has given overly positive feed back... so Im curious as to what you may think?

2) now that i have the video uploaded how do i get the link on my main page to display a pop up window with it and not take you off the site to view it.

Hi Kath. I agree with your parents, it's too quick and easy to miss items you're reading.

You can just use the Youtube embed facility to post a video to your site.

 Thanks Micoots -

my main page is an HTML splash page so I'm unsure how to imbed something into i have it added as a video on the site too but when you click the video button on my main page it takes you to youtube

Don't know about embedding it.

I like the video and think the speed is fine.....as long as you are looking to hook younger daycare workers, which you probably are. They are most likely already used to online and watching things.

I would slow i down if you wanted to hit english as second language workers/owners.

If you can add a HTML block and embed it there, try that.

I agree that it would have more impact if the text were displayed longer.

In the video production courses required for my degree, we were taught that text should be displayed long enough to be read at least twice by the average person. Granted, that was back in the late '80s before the internet. Even though younger people would probably be more appreciative of the faster visuals, I doubt they've learned to read faster than us old folks. :-)

To embed your video in a page, just select the "embed" option under the share tab, then copy and paste the iframe code into your page:

P.S. I'm using a javascript to open a pop-up widow containing youtube videos. It isn't difficult.

I can't add a block to the splash page... thanks though for the input re: second language good points i didn't really think about.

Thanks for the feed back... i also had someone tell me i needed to add more ethnic photos as it was "too white" so i have a few things to add to my next video.

You could also open the link in a new window or tab with target="_blank".

73 year old me says:

1. Great video! very professional and catchy.

2. Just a tad fast, but it keeps time with the lollypop music.

3. I found text sizing okay but only watched it in normal Youtube window.

From a graphics perspective, you are asking your viewer to read short text blocks to build up a message.

Thus the text should flow by being the same in each block. @sbg101 is right. The average reader should be able to read each text block twice. I'm a slow reader, I got through it okay but couldn't remember a single thing at the end. Give people a chance to absorb what they've just read before putting the next block in front of them.

If possible, use the same text shapes: Either all caps, Caps and lower case all the way through rather than switching from one to the other for effect. We adjust to the shapes we read rather than the words. That's proven with this test: Msot poplee can raed tihs wohiutt mcuh torblue.

Did you know that Capitals take nearly half as long again to read and absorb that lowercase?

My guess is that you can probably slow the lot (including the music) down to make it five or ten seconds longer.

I like it.

So far among all the Dolphin powered website I have seen, your's homepage is the best!

Which splash page you have used? Is it in the Boonex market or you got it from somewhere else??

The video is good. But since the audio is not properly synchronised with the video, so in the last it looks like it ends abruptly. Little fast!

Thanks

You brought up a few good points that a few others had also mentioned so looks like round two will soon be in the works.

Thanks  IrfanAlam

the video does end rather abruptly... the music is about a 40 seconds longer than the video. I've yet to figure that part of motion out.

As for my home page thanks for your kind words... I too love it  however.... its kind of a sore subject with me... I was on a developers website (I won't mention names) and really liked his main page I asked if he could design me one like it with a few less features. He said yes he could develop me a custom one to suit my needs however the cost would be $$. I hummed and hawed about the price but he did a beautiful mock so I said yes and sent him the $

Its supposed to responsive, its not,  its supposed to have a pop up front page log in -they couldn't complete that feature which isn't the ned of the world but i found it odd that in the next sentence  they could If paid extra.... i already paid extra to have the content added so that i would not have to do it. I ended up adding all the feature content myself as i was provided with the typical latin gibberish . and the instructions i was given to complete future changes were inaccurate I even approached Nathan for help and he agreed the instructions were not correct.

And the clincher as to why I'm upset is that not only did I way over pay for what i received but found the template he used for his site (the one he model my site after ) on theme forest for under $30...  so i approached him for a partial refund and was told i could sell my template on the market....

now if i ever get a copy of it i will gladly share it with you or anyone who would like to use it. :) Ive since made some changes and played about with it but over all it similar.

thats my vent done for the day. I bet your wishing you hadn't asked. lol!

I'm afraid viewing your video, gave me astigmatism.  Too many little pieces dancing around  that take your eyes off the content you want to display.  I hate it... sorry.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

Great comments often come from those who say it like it is.

Nice work on the Daycare website, sorry to hear you were 'ripped off' for it. And yes, the video is fast, ragged and hard to comprehend on first run.

Was it meant for the kids, or their parents?

ROFLMAO!!! houstonlively thanks for your honesty (and the laugh) - I love your right to the point no BS approach to life. I've been getting mixed reviews on it. The younger crowed ...you know those that suffer a lot with ADD seem to love it! hahaha! I don't take offence the feed back gives me more insight as to what i need to capture the others like yourself that hate it.

Why not. Default forum signature does nothing and when I get quoted, my 'signature' is there.
