Profile Customize | Themes Import

Does anybody have an inkling as to how this is supposed to work?

In admin panel, modules, profile customize, there is an option to import a theme.

Should this be css, html/css or what is going on here?

i imported a css file thinking that would be the best logic on a theme import, well I dont have a clue where it imported to, but was not available on the site.

Does anybody have any personal experience with this one?

also, when i make an attempt at uploading a css file for the theme import, it reports that its an invalid file format. so what is the correct file format?

Still not tested in the real life... but I think that this is to import themes (customization) that other members made and saved ? Isn't it ?

I've got no idea how this is supposed to work. If the admin can upload the themes and have them present for the users to select, would be what it appears to have the functionality of, but i am not able to get anything to upload.

if this is for the members to provide the theme, then that is just a little off the hook. i will continue to investigate this one, as it is interesting that it would present itself as needing 'style' but .css is the wrong file format.

I can't figure this one out myself John.

I've tried all kinds of file extensions. Each and every one show as an invalid extension after the upload has supposedly happened. I can't find anything showing that there was any actual upload so I'm guessing it's throwing the error and refusing to upload anything at all.

I "exported" a theme I created and it showed as "themes" with no extension at all. It was an HTML file when I viewed it as text though.

I tried to re-import it and...............same danged thing. Invalid file extension.

Unless I'm missing something - this is a bug. I've tried everything I could think of to make it work, including trying to upload a .zip file with the images and css inside. No go.

You always help everyone else out so I didn't want this post to go unanswered / untried.

Wish I could be more help man.

Like MS said, the feature is for shared themes created by other users. When you customize your profile, you can publish your theme and then other members can import it.

thanks for the answer bud, however, there is no logic to that, as this is in the "admin pane" and it hooks to my computer for me to upload a theme. i understand what you are saying about the themes one user may create, and setup as published and be able to share that, however, that is not what i am talking about, i am on the admin panel, there is a module in admin panel that says profile customize. clicking on that will open up a page, on that page there is an option to import a theme, which would insinuate the theme is on your local machine.

i will get some screen shots of this. i have discussed this with jtadeo and darren, jt says it dont work, or if it does work, he does not know how to get it to work no more than myself and guypc

Sorry DosDawg, you are right, you was talking about the Admin Panel, not about the user interface... My mistake :-)

As anything about Profile page customization is stored in the database, this is maybe some .sql file that we have to import ??? But, if so, what about the images used, for example, for the page background ?

exactly, and that is why i was posting this, seems that there are not many interested in this topic, wonder where caltrade is at, im sure he will think this is a feature. (just digging at ya cal)

it has been tested by myself and three others that i know of, and it doesnt work, or we dont know what we are supposed to be doing. maybe we should go ahead and post it in the bugs forum, so it can get buried in a day or two with 20 frivolous posts about situations that have already been answered.

Regards, and thanks a ton for the answer.

I repeat that ...

Well as far as the images go, they are stored in  "/modules/boonex/profile_customize/data/images", but the images are resized - resulting in 3 different images altogether -  so the original is being run through a script before they are put in that folder.

I would assume that uploading a theme via the admin panel is supposed to automatically do that part, but who knows. There isn't any documentation that I've been able to find. Nor is there anything describing how it would all be packaged up before upload.

I tried uploading many, many file formats - as well as multiple types of compressed formats. They all get the same exact result. Invalid File Format. I didn't try a .sql file however.

I guess a person could manually add it into the database and do the image resizing themselves, but that defeats the whole purpose.

Hopefully this will be addressed since this would be one of the better features of D7 IMHO.

At the very least, it would be nice to be able to export various themes and share them here so that they can be imported into other sites. As it is, this isn't even possible.

Shame really.

I haven't completed tested this...but after playing around with profile customize logged in as Admin...i did select something as a "theme"...but i'll be damned if I can get it to remove.  I did try to delete it through Admin Panel, and it still shows up.  CSS didn't work for me either, and that was about the time I logged off to deal with later.

Then there is more than 1 mod in the market that calls for that file to be edited. It doesn't exist in D7.x.x so I don't know what they were working on when they created those mods. Maybe a beta or RC?

As for the themes export/import....

It would be nice if they got this fully functional.

I found out that if a member customizes his/her page.  That customization can be saved and shared as a theme.

Yes, but it can't be  imported, exported, deleted, etc from the admin panel. That's what we are talking about.

Hey Boonex Team - Why havent you answered this question? Youve had over 6 months.
Once of your built in mods is useless as the most experienced people here at Unity cant figure out what the *)(^&^%^ it is let alone how to use it.
How about a hint or two??

the fact that no one at Boonex has answered is why I do not think it is a good idea to PAY for this program!

You think it's hard for us to use this feature, try telling members of your sites.

It's like something created by a child.

It's a great feature, if it was not written for only the programmers to understand.

If your using a customized template you don't want to enable this feature anyway, I have totally removed the "Profile Customizer" from sites to save from causing more confusion.

Notice this was started 1183 days ago; it is time some answers were provided.

Now, I got to the profile customiser, I see where I can publish a theme to shared theme.  However, there is also a "My Themes" but there is no way to save or publish a theme to "My Themes"  I am guessing the idea is that I can create several themes that I don't wish to publish to shared but can save for later use.  Yet, there is no way to save a theme to "My Themes"

The publish to shared seems to work.  I go into admin and I can see the shared themes.  There is that import button still there but no indication of what type of file it is looking for.  So, we ask again, how does this import feature for themes work?  How can we create themes and import them for members to use?

Also, the select for themes seems to be a radio button and not a checkbox;  and clicking on export does nothing.  Is this something that Boonex started working on and then abandoned?
