Problem with recompiling languages in mods.

Hey!

I am manually translating a site by translating the lang-file in "root/langs" into my native language, and it has all gone pretty well until I started installing modules.

I spent hours translating sentences in the main language file yesterday, uploaded it and replaced it with the previous file, and reloaded the page. Then it all seemed great! The top right "Profile, account, logout" was also translated as were a lot of language logical errors that came naturally with the first translation of the main language file.

After that, I translated a mod language file, uploaded it and recompiled the language file for that module. When I reloaded the site again, all changes I spent hours on in the main system language file was annulled. The previous translations are there, though. Do any of you know what this can be caused by?

Please help me, thought this is a big problem, and I can`t seem to get the whole site translated properly :-(.

I see where you said you were 'reloading the pages'. I have to ask, did you clear the cache after you were done?

Thats where you made the mistake. That file is a language cache. It is replaced when the languages are recompiled.

Module language files are translated by creating a language file for your language copied from the en version in each module.

The main system language is translated by creating a export of the english language from the languages section in admin, then importing the translated version.

You do not touch that file in the langs folder. It's not to be manually edited.

Also note: You never remove the main english language. You always create a new language if you need others. And you can then set whatever language you want to be the default. The reason is modules are distributed with only a english version of the keys. If the default en language is removed, modules do not install properly.

Now I remember :-). When I first translated the main file, I exported it and followed the "manual" here on Boonex` site. Then I imported it, and so it worked.

I have translated so many modules now, that I have forgotten how I did the main language file the first time. I have therefor downloaded it, edited it in Dreamweaver and uploaded it, replacing the last main language file.

Then I have a question: I have noticed that most of the mods have "entered" lines in the main file (lang-no.php). It was originally ca 2100 lines, and is now 4100 lines of code. How does this work with all the separate mods` language files I have translated?

F. ex. I now exported the language file properly, and opened the php for editing. In line 3905-3917 I see the Modzzz`poke module has entered some lines in this. Some of them are:

These lines are identical to the language file in the mods` install/langs folder. Will I have to translate them both in the main file aswell in the language file for the mod, or is that what happens when I have uploaded the file "no.php" in the mod folder and recompile the language for that mod?

Does my question make sence?

Lol. I have translated all the mods two times now, both in the main file and in the mod file, manually, word by word. I have even done the same translating of the main file many times. Probably spent 200 hrs all together the last month.

I don`t really know what cache is, so I haven`t emptied it. Maybe it`s time for some googling ;-).

You need to create a translated version of the mods language file. For example en.php in the mods language folder copied to ru.php.

That's why the instructions state to remove all modules. The modules languages are not to be translated as part of the main language. They are separate.

Anyhow, you can skip the translation of any you see in the main export that are obviously for other modules.

Then do the module language files. Then when you recompile the module languages, it will insert the new translated values.
