Since my site was hacked, I have reinstalled it from my backup, and took the opportunity to do a clean new install of Dolphin 6.1.2. After uploading the database I've got most of everything working again. However the one major problem that has me stumped is with the Forum. Once logged in as a user I can see all the categories and topics, and upon clicking on the links of each topic, when I should be able to read a particular forum post I see the text [L[Access denied]] which I just cannot figure out why this is happening.
Even on the front page where previously one could read snippets of the most recent forum posts, all I can see now is the text [L[Forum Posts]] and nothing else.
Anyone knows anything about this?

Recompile lang for Orca :)

OK have done that. But now even when I am logged in as admin I see the message :
Access denied. You must have special permissions to access this area or you are not logged in.

I have recompiled lang for Orca ,but nothing changed. |

Access denied. You must have special permissions to accessthis area or you are not logged in.
That's the same message I get for the problem in THIS forum at:

I tried in both topic RB. I don't get the error. Might clear your Browser Cache and see if that solves it. I clear 2 to 3 times a day. |
Ah shoot...you are correct. Can't get into my site right now to check (trying to do it from memory) ...
where is the orca admin ?
Admin > plugins > orca forum.

Exact same results in Firefox 3.0, Internet EXploder 7.0.6 and Opera 9.26. (all caches cleared)
Steps to replicate:
1) Flag a couple posts.
2) Go to forums > flagged (in left column)
3) Click on any post
4) Viola!

OK I tried what you mentioned and yes, the exact same message is displayed, even though I am already logged in.
Access denied. You must have special permissions to access this area or you are not logged in.
This is the same message that I posted right at the beginning of this thread, and the problem with the Forum still remains in my website. I have upgraded to 6.1.3 with the Security Patch announced by Boonex, expecting the problem will go away, but no such luck.
Somebody please help !!

I recommend you to talk with your hosting support since what I've found most problem are in the server configuration. There is no documentation about all these issues.
I had a LOTS of issues in my webspace after I was hacked too and I worked EVERYDAY with my hosting support team to findout what's wrong.

Yes, I had lots of issues too, including my website being flagged as a "Reported Web Forgery". I too did work closely with my webhosting company.
I had to abandon my original url and registered a new domain and did a clean new install with the Dolphin 6.1.2 script. The problem with the Forum started after the new install, as the previous website did not have any problem. This is what I find most puzzling. The rest of the website works fine, it's only the Forum that is giving me a headache.

Mok... question... when you get that "Access denied..." error, what URL does it give you? I have a slightly similar problem except mine produces that error after editing a posting. Even if the edit is successfully accepted, I still get that error message. What I discovered however is that actual URL I'm being redirected to after the edit is a non-existent permalink URL, hence the error. The redirect (as I assume) should be to orca/forum/#topic/{topic-name}.htm which is a valid URL easily verifiable by manually entering. What it redirect me to however, is exactly that, minus the {topic-name} (i.e., orca/forum/#topic/.htm). I've exchanged emails with Andrey on this (reviewing .htaccess in the process) but he ultimately concluded that he didn't know the answer since all seemed to be working fine on their end. He referred me instead to the developer of Orca, but I have yet to connect with him. Anyhow, I hope this is a good enough lead for you to resolve your situation. In return, I'm hopeful that you share the results since that info might prove to be critical in addressing my specific problem.
Thanks!

I only get that error when I am deleting as ADMIN. The only thing I can think of...
Admin --> Settings --> Membership Levels --> Membership Types --> Membership Actions. I have forum available for some and not for others. Forum and ORCA settings. I don't get the error
|
Hmmm... interesting and creative thought, Ghost. Unfortunately for me, that isn't the culprit. No major worries though since it's really trivial. I'm sure something will come up on the forums that will ultimately lead me to the right answer. Or, if push came to shove, I guess I can take the time to reverse engineer. |
Hello vivicam.
Well in my case the url is correct as orca/forum/#topic/{topic-name}.htm. So it is still a mystery.
At the same time based on what theGhost said I did a test today with the admin settings for membership levels. I deleted all the permissions for non-members, so that the message on the page says "No actions allowed for this membership". I saved my changes, cleared my web-cache and refreshed the page, logged out of Admin and opened the website again as a non-member. I was surprised to see that I can still view profiles, add a record into Guestbook, read blogs, comment on blogs, watch videos, listen to music etc etc.
Maybe I am misunderstanding something about the function of "permissions" for non-members versus registered members. On this subject I am now facing a glut of unregistered visitors adding hundreds of nonsensical records to Guestbooks of my members. Is anyone else facing this problem?

Hi Mok,
On that membership settings test, did you turn off "Site is running in Free Mode"?
|
Oh my God, this is sooo embarassing!
OK I unchecked the "Site is running in free mode" thingy and that did the job. Non-members are not able to do all those things for which they do not have permissions enabled in the "Membership Levels" settings in Admin Panel.
Many thanks for pointing that out.
