Private Groups

I'm still continuing our evaluation of Dolphin.  We need private group functionality with security of sharing within groups paramount.  The only thing I've been able to find in the forums or documentation is this post, which suggests that private groups don't really exist:

Experimenting with our test setup, I confirmed the above behavior.  I created a group, set every permission in the group menu to "members only".  Then created a forum post for the group.

Logging in under another user name, the "private" forum post was easily readable.

Dolphin Pro is useless to us as far as I can tell from this behavior.  Am I doing something wrong at this point?  Time to explore Jomsocial perhaps?

Then you're likely to find that particular software doesn't have some feature that Dolphin has. It's a see-saw with all the social networking scripts -  one has this feature, another has that.

We can expect any script to be tailor made and that's where the third party modules come into play. Modzzz makes a $20 module called Script Privacy which may do the job and I'm sure there will be others:

I can't reproduce the problem, private group isn't accessible by non-members of the group.

However if your account is admin account then private forum maybe accessible, since admin can access almost everything on the site.

Alex is correct. It's confusing sometimes because if you're going thru the front end with an admin account you see tons of blocks and things that others wouldn't see.

If you want a quick and easy way to switch users without logging in and out I suggest AntonV sub profile mod. This is a must have in my opinion. I've got 20 accounts set up with all sorts of membership and levels and I can swap to any with a click to see how page(s) function depending on each.

I think there are at least three things an admin should do:

Set up a test profile. Use it to log in and see what other members can see. As stated above, Admin can see all sorts of things not accessible to others. Admin can also test things like Chat, friends and other privacy issues with a test profile.

Set up a test site. I have my test site running from its own directory in the root directory: http://mysite.com/test. This is handy for testing new modules and altered code before committing.

Clear the Caches. Do this with Dolphin every time you make a code change and do your browser's cache after any change. Chrome is a terror. It's very difficult to clear its caches so consider using Incognito mode when testing. Ctrl/Shift/N
