Premium Groups - Events+News+Venue+Sponsors+Maps Mod Support (Modzzz)

This is the support forum for the Premium Groups mod.

I cannot replicate this. Double clicking works as it should for me. Please state which browser (and version) you are testing with.

I was using an iPad with the Safari browser at the time. I've since tried it with Safari on a PC. Firefox, IE8, Chrome and Opera and they all work properly. Seems to be an idiosyncrasy of the iPad. Sorry I didn't check further before posting.

Hello,

I noticed that when you create a news item, event or sponsor within a group, it shows up under all groups within their respective blocks. Is this by design or is it a bug?

This issue is now solved.

a) Fixes issue where Sub-sections (Events, Venue etc.) was showing up for every Group instead of only the group for which it was created.

b) When viewing Sub-sections (Events, Venue etc., the title now displays as "Group title - Sub-section title".

c) Adds possibility to set default Search Distance, Latitude, Longitude and Zoom for Google Map on Groups main page. 

d) When a logged in member views the Groups main page, Google Map will automatically display all the Groups within a given proximity of that member's profile location (City+Country).

e) Fixes problem with Google Map displaying the incorrect location for Cities with the same name in different States.

Upgrade went flawless, works wonderfully now.

What would I need to put on a hyperlink to link to a groups forum?

This is the URL path

What would I need to replace 'groupname' with to show the group that the user is currently viewing?

HTML block would be placed on the group page.

As default, I think the forum link within a group page is very easy to miss, just being on the top links menu and text only. 

Of course, the forum feeds can also provide a link, but I do not want non fans to be able to view the forum feeds.

Idealy, I would have the 'comments' on the group page, open to all group visitors, with a HTML block link to the forums for fans only. This way, I can set access to forums to fans only while providing a stronger visual link.

Any help would be appreciated!

The Group URI is provided by the php code : $this->aDataEntry['uri'] . I think you need a PHP block instead of HTML.

REQUEST for Premium Groups mod!!

First off, have to say this mod is great! Adding sections such as News, Events, Locations to Groups increases the possibilities of what the Groups mod can be used for so much...

I have one request though for another 'extension'...

How about 'Articles' to be added, but WITH its own categories?

I am able to rename the Groups 'news' so it would show as articles, but there are no categories for the 'extensions' within groups!

I guess if you could combine Premium Groups, with Ultimate Articles, this would be even better!

I would like to suggest you two important feature I think would be very valuable!

1- Attending an Event:
Ability to member to confirm presence in an event.  By clicking on Guest List (most commun in real life) or like facebook that is a poll: I am Attending, Maybe and No.  For me, just as in real life "put your name in our guest list to get discount" will be just great.

2- Multi-admin
Any Club has its team and I think the Ability to have multiple Admins, giving some permission to others, would be perfect for all.

  I´ve Just purchased it and haven´t tested it yet.  If those features are already there, please forgive me for this post.  Couldn´t see them on the product description.

 Multi-Admin exists already. I will consider the guest list in future updates. Please note though that this is the support forum for the Premium Groups mod (not the Clubs mod)

Hi Modzz, I updated the module and now languages dont seem to compile.

Also, If I create a test group, then click on the link for that group, it redirects to this URL

mysite/__group_url__

and not the groups url!

Any ideas whats causing this???

Hi Jerome, is there any way of creating a page block on the groups home page to display the 'States' as a list, same as you have with many other of your mods such as premium listings, premium classifieds etc....

The option to add a state is there when listing a group, but I need a state block for the groups home page!

Feature Request!

Can you add 'Articles' to this module as you have with News and Events?

Ability for users to create photo albums within groups would also be great. I know there's a mod for this but not for Premium Groups, just regular groups...!

Cant get an RSS feed to show in the RSS block.

Ive added one within edit group, and it shows when on the edit screen. The block is not showing on the group view though. Looks like its not recognizing the feed?

 Explain what will be the difference between Group News and Group Articles.

 Try adding another Feed to see if its a problem with that specific one or not.

Would be great if group members could post articles with the format you have in Ultimate Articles.

Group news would be just for group admins, whereas articles for group members to contribute.

Adds and area where members can take part in a more in depth way than the group forums.

This is a great mod... the only issue I have is cosmetic, and I'm wondering if there is a way to fix it...

Would love to have a way to have a main group pic in the sidebar, much like Facebook groups, but even though I put up a pic that would easily fit into the sidebar, and put the picture block at the top of the sidebar, the pic doesn't center within the block and slides off out of the column and gets cut off.

Is there a way to fix this? Or some workaround so each group could have a pic that they could choose the size of that they could put in a sidebar or something?

 There is no way to accomplish this presently without customization.

I have a question and a request for Premium Groups.

First the question - is there a way to either enhance the group forum so that it is easier for users to see the link within group view? The page block for latest forum posts is great, but links direct into each post. The only other link is the 'sub menu' link towards the top which is just a text link. 

Some of my users are not as 'sharp' at finding their way around websites as others and I feel a stronger link would be very good for the group forums... Im trying to build my groups to be the main 'chat' area on my site.

And the request ...

In the group news that you have added to Premium Groups, can you enable an RSS feed independent to each group news post as you have with Group View?

There is an RSS page block as standard on dolphin that you can access for groups news within page builder, but it is general to ALL group news so any RSS will appear in every group news posting no matter what group, or what news it is!

The RSS feed you have for Groups (view) is great as its individual to that group, however, I would like to place further individual feeds into News items within each group...

Please can you add this to the module as it will bring a new use for the Groups News!

 as an after thought - have you ever thought about making a groups wall of some sort? Like an extended groups comments block?!

Hi Modzzz, with the Groups RSS, it gets to cluttered on the group homepage if you have anything more than 1 RSS feed per group.

Can you change it so that each feed have its own page? 

A bit like the Groups News where each item is on a its own page, but with a Group-news page block on group view page?

This would be a fantastic addition to the module....

Please let me know if you can do this?

How can 'common categories' block display in alphabetical order?

At the moment, it displays in order as cats are created.

Ive tried to change the order of cats in sys_categories, but it doesnt seem to change anything, even after cleaning cache in dolphin and browser.

Is there another file where group cats are ordered?

I just want them to appear automatically i alphabetical order as the other premium mods do.

Is there a way I'm missing to make state, city and zip boxes required on the group creation page?

And on a separate issue... is is somehow possible to make it so there is one group in each state that new users are automatically added to when they join the site?

There is a group I set up here in Omaha... and when I search for groups within 200 miles of Council Bluffs (Council Bluffs, US or Council Bluffs, IA), which is just a few miles away, it shows up. But when I search for groups within 200 miles of Omaha (either Omaha, US or Omaha, NE), the city the group is actually IN, it doesn't show up on the map

Also, the block of text in the news block on groups such as this one are being oddly cut off right in the middle of a line of text:

Hi Modzzz, can you update the admin controls when creating a group, so that admin can select which membership levels can post news, events, sponsors, and venues?

This is an option for videos, sounds, files, photos, but no control by membership level for the additional section you have added. It would improve functionality if admin could appoint different admins, or members to add news, or events seperately etc..

This for me is the most used mod on the market! It's allowed me to transform my site and use it the way I want to :-)

I have one request though, the RSS feed within each group, where you can post multiple feeds to display within group...

At the moment these will display as a regular feed on the individual groups view page. 

Problem is, anything more than 1 feed, and 10 posts, and it just becomes way too big to look through.

Is it possible for you to create the feeds so they post in their own pages, such as you have with Groups news and events? Where there is a pageblock with latest news, events and sponsors shows on group view, but then each post has its own page?

If RSS feeds could appear within their own page, instead of on group view page as a list, it would be really great!

Problem with the thumbnail images resizing oddly

Im getting some strange results with thumbnail images for groups, and was wandering where this is defined? I dont have normal groups mod running to test if this is normal or not, but with all other modules such as listings, clubs, articles etc its fine.

Problems is thumbnail images that appear as the main groups thumb are getting cropped top and side so only a very small square images shows. Yet on 1 group I have it has only cropped the sides and not the top!

see how CARS is cropped on the sides, WOMENS INTEREST is not cropped heightwise, yet the bottom left image is cropped in height...

Any ideas why this is happening or how I can show a full sized thumbnail?

At the moment my Groups homepage just looks messy as each image is cropped differently...

Map does not display correctly on my site? Shows too large, so although it seems as if there is nothing if I change the +/- on the left side it comes into view.

Any setting I need to change somewhere to fix this please?

It covers a broad range because it is meant to display multiple entries in the region. I will look into adjusting the range if there is only one entry to display.

In using the Forum in Groups, I noticed that hitting  Submit button the screen just sits there, no acknowledgement of the entry being accepted nor any screen refreshing, hitting submit again does the same thing.. Later I noticed that the entry showed twice (since i submitted twice).

Is there a way to acknowledge that the submission has taken place. Member could be hitting submit several times before leaving or getting frustrated and breaking his mouse.

I logged on to your site and checked this but it submitted fine for me.

It submits, no doubt it all works. What happens from a users point of view (I tried it again today); it is so quick you do not get this sense of completion, there is no message or refreshing of the screen nor does it return to the previous screen or any such action that simulates a Submit.

Hope this makes sense.

 PM me with the username you are testing with. I am unable to replicate such issue on your site. Also, please check other mods on your site to see if you are having the same issue.

RESPONSE : Contact Mod4Dolphin for support issues regarding his mod. This problem has nothing to do with the Premium Groups mod.

RESPONSE : I have not figured out what is causing the forum issue on your site.

I noticed that in this mod using FF the number of views is not displayed underneath the Events Thumbnail. It displays comments that may have been made (in my case they are all 0, which is correct). But no number viewed (eye symbol is missing).

Everything shows correctly in IE (mine is v9).

Hi Jerome, I think an important feature for this mod would be for group admin to also select who can post group news, events etc...

An ideal option would be to allow group sponsors to post group news, and group events.

At the moment, admin can select who can upload media, but only admin can post items.

My site, I need to keep just site admin creating groups, but then allow sponsors to post news and events!...

This would be a brilliant addition to the mod?

Thanks for your great software. I was wondering is there a way to display all groups on groups home page one Google maps prior to doing any search. http://www.kin-space.org/m/groups/home/ So that when users go to “Ecovillages” tab they will see groups displayed on map right away.

 Should this not ideally work based on the members IP. So if it picks up the IP address the map generated should ideally show all groups within a certain radius?

 For logged in viewers, if there are groups within the viewer's city, they will be displayed.

I would agree with Presscon. It is vital to show to visitors (nonmembers) that there is activity within group, and displaying groups on map based on IP address is an ideal solution. That could be problematic to implement, however even setting a default location on map would work as well. Is it hard to modify script to accomplish this task?

Hi, how can I make the fb comments box fluid width and not a fixed one?

I'm getting an issue when users try to create items, (groups, forum posts etc) when they click submit it appears as if its not worked so they keep clicking and multi post/add

 Yep, I have seen this happen, especially in the Forum. Items are getting submitted, but it gives you the impression nothing happened, so you do it again sometimes several times only to find there are now multiple entries. The problem is the screen does not refresh, so you just sit there not knowing its done.

 Yep, I've advised my members to hit refresh after they click submit as this works but needs fixing, also I updated my site to 7.0.9 and it killed my site, had to re-install the mod :(

Problem is due to glitch in forum integration with modules. This is a global dolphin problem and not something specific to the Groups mod. (not sure if it is fixed in latest dolphin release)

The Premium Groups mod has a built-in Events section. Now, I have also added integration with default Boonex Events module. There is an option to hide Group Events from showing in the regular Events section. If this option is activated, they will only show up on the Group page. Administrator has the option of choosing to use the built-in Group Event or the Boonex Event integration

I did so a week ago and have yet to receive a response.

I've since gutted my Dolphin installation and attempted to install Premium Groups on a pristine version of Dolphin. Same issue. I'll forward today's error message to the support email as well.

Premium Groups is an extension of default Dolphin Groups mod, therefore you need to install the default Dolphin Groups mod first then proceed with installation of the Premium Groups mod.

Hi Modzzz, is there a way to assign new members automatically to a group according to what are they live in?

Would be interested in this as a custom modification if you can quote?

Also, I need to restrict group sponsors to be setup by main site admin only, and not by group admin.

Had to re-install on a clean Dolphin site for some testing, but cant use the sqlupdate on initial install!

 What you are saying cannot be correct. The error is saying that you are trying to add the SponsorName field to the `bx_groups_main` table and it already exists in that table. However, default dolphin does not have that field. There are absolutely only two scenarios that will cause this error :

a) You installed another groups mod that added the SponsorName field to the `bx_groups_main` table

b) You tried to run sqlupdate.php more than once.

Adds the ability to limit viewing of sub-items (Events, Sponsors etc) to fans only.

Adds menu link to view local listings. This will display groups that corresponds to the logged in member's postal code and city. For customized sites that have added a state field to the Profile, there is an option in the settings to enter the name of this state field. If a state field exists, the local listings will be filtered by state also.

The existing menu link that is labelled "Local" is really a drill-down and it has been renamed as such.

Additionally, blocks are added on group home page to display groups created and groups joined by the logged in member.

Be more careful with the handling of files on your site. You deleted an essential file from the Groups module which caused your problem.

 I'm very careful, and surprised it's something I may have done.  What file was missing?

Where can I change the Categories Listing in this module please? I went into Admin and into the Groups Module, but could not find any way to change or delete some of the categories as they are not applicable on my site.

You need to compile Language.

Dolphin Admin panel -> Modules -> Orca Forum -> Manage Forum -> Press "[L[Compile Lang:]]en" link

Adjustment has been made to accommodate integration with the Group Page Customizer mod. Download and replace the following file :

  modules\boonex\groups\classes\BxGroupsModule.php

When a member enters a URL Link, the default for the Link Insert is to open in the same window, which basically puts the member out of our site. Can it not be set to open in a new window as a default?

Or is this one of those Dolphin default things?

 Enter a URL Link where ? in the description box ?

 Where you enter the actual content  - in 'Post Text' Box. You can enter a link there.

No manipulation is done on the information the user enters in the description box so links will open in the same browser (the default behavior of links)
