Help Please:

I have searched the forums for an answer to this question, but nothing comes up, so I am guessing I am probably missing something obvious.
I want to create a predefined list which will appear in alphabetical order when presented to the user. I will be adding new entries periodically, so I'd like to know the easiest way to alphabetize the new entry without having to "position" it in the list using the arrows on the right hand side.
I've noticed the predefined list for "Country" is alphabetized, but only when presented to the user. The list itself is not in alphabetical order when I view it as an admin. I have tried to figure out how this list is automatically alphabetized, but have not been able to duplicate the results.
What am I missing here?
