i recommend them to everyone i know, not just people on this board. 99 percent of the time i see post like this is is because either the person who owns the site in question has no understanding in what it is they are doing, or it is a simple case of wanting to run a huge site with loads of traffic on the smallest cheapest shared server they can find.

Not a great site, traffic is no problem.

Hostforweb of the most expensive one I know of shared servers.

It has taken two months to transfer my site, that's not because of traffic, a problem of hostforweb not know how to work.

Over an hour ago I wrote post and have not replied yet, that's not because of traffic, hostforweb problem are not professionals.

They always say ETA problem or DDoS attack,

My site is offline.

I used to have two websites hosted through HFW and i had nothing but problems with them, my sites were also down all the time and the reason most the time was that they said my websites had too much traffic, but when i stated that the websites only had a couple of members they changed it to all the mods on the site being too much for the server and that if i wanted to stay hosted then i was told i HAD to upgrade my account to over quadruple what i was already paying (and i wasnt on the cheapest plan as it was) so in the end i just told them to do one and said i wasn't going to stand for them trying to force me into paying more money when the service i was getting was cr*p anyway,

im now with Arvixe and have had several sites hosted with them for a number for a number of years and don't get me wrong i have i a few problems with them, latest being them not doing a backup on one of my sites for over 3 weeks, but they in my eyes are by far the best i have been with,

 Pepekas, hello again!

You made our day, really, I see around the office how techs that were involved in your ticket are totally upset reading this thread. Well OK.

Your first complaint was regarding domain registrar transfer not releasing your domain discussed here Not related to dolphin or hosting service at all.

This time also no relation to dolphin. What happened is that one table of your PHPBB3 forum database (again not dolphin) got corrupted. Yes, it took some time (an hour? until resolution) for techs to analize the logs and narrow the issue down. We found it and corrected, it turned out to be the following:

Incorrect key file for table './yoloesto_yoloest/phpbb3_sessions.MYI'; try to repair it [126]

Pepekas, since you are constantly unhappy with OUR dolphin hosting, godday registrar changes takes long, PHPBB3 crashing, I have offered a full refund and cancel service before next renewal so you can smoothly  move your site elsewhere and finally became happy.

Good luck. Max J. HFW CEO.

I'm giving them a shot for a few days. Started with the shared hosting and eyeing the Cloud Hosting. I emailed them to get some info on estimate of how many users a shared hosting would handle and VPS and Cloud hosting.  They just come back with:

We do not allow to use more than 20% of server resources on our shared plans. You need to consider a VPS account or a cloud server if you concerned about resource usage issues.
Your account can be disabled if you go over allowed limits. We send a report with description of the issue and disable your account in this case. Please understand that there are other users on a shared server. We will have to suspend your account if your resource usage affect other customers.

This issue can be easily resolved if you upgrade to VPS or cloud server. Please check out our VPS offers at http://hostforweb.com/vps/index.php
And our cloud server offers at http://hostforweb.com/cloud/

So I figure I would just post the question here and see if we get a better response. Lets be real - how could any business be able to estimate their ROI of using there web hosting service without critical information and under the threat of having your account disabled if you happen to go over the usage. I understand they have to take care of all users on a server. But, I have to take care of my users also.

In their cPanel it shows that with just ONE person logged into Dolphin site - it is using 20% of resources(it has gone up to 60% at one time). So with this information I figure that the Shared Host is only good up to 3 maybe 4 users before you get a closed account.

Anyone have a comparison with the other two Boonex recommended Dolphin hosting company?

I really shouldn't voice my opinion here, but I have read alot of posts regarding shared hosting and dolphin over my 5 years here at BoonEx. I will be the first to say that I have NEVER had a hosting company tell me I need to upgrade or got to specific hosting plan for my Dolphin site. I have had sites with 100s of users and 20-30 online at a time and never had a problem.

However, I should also point out that I have not had an account with the several hosting companies I have read about either. What people need to be aware of is, if you purchase 'unlimited' hosting for $4 a month (for example), you better read the fine print.

Speaking hypothetically, if any hosting company has 300 shared hosting accounts on 1 server, depending on the specs of that server, they have to enforce some type of 'regulation' when it comes to traffic/resources. Lets face it, if you take all the resources, then 299 other accounts are going to complain. It's easier to just suspend 1 account then possibly upset and lose profit off of 299. Again, I am not saying this is how HFW or any other company works, I'm just speaking broadly.

If you are seeing a spike in resources to 60% with just a single person online, then I would suggest digging a little further to see what is causing the problem. Dolphin has been enhanced greatly over the past couple of years to help reduce the resources impacted.

Nothing to see here

Yes- everyone knows that shared hosting has it's limitations. But 5-20 users in my estimate is to low - you may be more forgiving.

I did have a great email exchange with HostForWeb. Here is the summary from those emails..

Shared Hosting should handle about: 50-100 concurrent users

VPS Hosting should handle about 100-500 concurrent users

Cloud Hosting should handle about 200-800 concurrent users

They could not give estimate on Dedicated Server as it has to many variables.

As HostForWeb says: These are just rough estimates.

So far support has been on par with most other web hosts for the price you pay. I think the Cloud Hosting is a great deal if it does all it says.

It looks like the best and most typical option is 3 steps:

Step 1: Use the shared hosting until you get your Dolphin site developed and as many Boonex bugs and errors squashed and use a few dummy accounts to check everything out. You will get several spammers during this time to help you see how many resources are used. Use their crap to test your site - then toss the trolls out and move on to the next step.

Step 2: Upgrade to the Starter Cloud Hosting(around $50 per month) until you have 1000 or more REAL users.

Step 3: Hopefully you understand capitalism and have made a few bucks on your site by then and can afford the Cloud Hosting upgrades you need to continue to grow your website and put money in the bank.
