Please Help - Any Advice Appreciated

Okay so I am in a huge mess, let me try to fill you in on the situation. I bought a website from someone with the dolphin script loaded on it. It had a lot of users going to it, and it was for selling for a good price.  So i bought the domain, site, everything from him.  Come to find out all the guy did was downloaded a nulled or hacked version of dolphin so that it would not need a liscense, loaded onto his site, then sold it to me and told me he made so much for it.  Now I am in a mess. I want to get things the way they should be. I would like to start over as much as possible, without losing my users and well everything in mysql, so is there a way to just create a new directory, upload dolphin on to it, connect it with my previous mysql db, and then buy the license so there will not be in ads? If anyone has any advice I thank you in advance.

I just dont understand why people would want to null a dolphin, its free to use for gods sake, and it only has the smallest of ads on anyway..It's not like its strewn about with google spam or anything

I shouldnt think this would be such a big problem, i would imagine its a bit like an update, just replace the hacked dolphin files for original ones. Im not a hacker so i dont really know, but seems this would be all you had to do. Im sure somebody with more knowledge will tell you though. You would probably have to contact boones though over the licence situation in this case.

I don't think it is a huge problem either.  The first thing I would do is make a complete structure and content backup of the database (save it locally) - this is a single click in the admin panel.  The database backup and restore in Dolphin works quite well.  Is the site heavily modified?  If not, I would do a re-install and start over, if it is, I would write Boonex tech support and try to resolve with them.

There have been some modifications made to the site, I am not sure if it is a good idea to post my site addy on here or not. I know I once posted my joomla cms site to their forums and within hours it was being attacked. There are not that many mods made to it, except a page peel feature, super pokes feature, and a poker room. The poker room is really just a link pointing outside. The other mods that I have done can be easily fixed, like me placing a static image with link here and there through out the site. I can fix all these things, my main concern is keeping all the users, their messages, friends relationships, etc. All that should be stored in the mysql db, I am assuming it works the same was as joomla cms.

So I am going to create a new folder in the directory, upload the latest version of dolphin there, then connect it with the previous mysql db. Once i know for sure everything is running smoothly i want to to move it out of the sub-directory into the root. How big of an issue is this going to be. Can anyone tell me where the configuration php file is that stores all the mysql db info, as well as the folder info(where the site contents are located on the server)?

I'm confused as to why you need to start over? Why wouldn't you just buy a $99 license from Boonex and then just go into advanced options and put the license in?

If it's nulled the licenses are not working (they are useless)...

I would simply backup all the files and DB, copy the current files (nulled) and the database, make a test folder and reinstall this backup, then replace the nulled files with originals, place free licenses (generated from Unity > My Licenses - link on the left menu) and see how it works, if everything's Ok then go ahead and do this to your live site..

Contact the seller and get your money back. Then post their name so everyone here won't get suckered into buying a nulled site.
