I have this question or observation and would like a clarification.
Me too.
- When uploading multiple photos you go through a process of where (e.g. album) you want your photos stored.
Correct
- Then you have the option to select the file where your photos are located.
Not as far as I know. You can only choose the album where the photos will be located.
- After selecting the source and images you want the system processes them and they are uploaded to your site.
That is correct. A process bar indicates progress, followed by the word "Done".
THIS IS WHAT IS BOTHERING ME:
- After the photos are queued and processed and entered into the database .
- there is a "submit" button at the bottom.
It seems that the sole purpose od the Submit button is to "Submit" any changes you make to the captions. This is NOT very clear and most members leave lengthy file names for their photos: 125r44444:ddddd wwwww 48885.
POINTS TO NOTE:
Before you click on the submit button:
- the photos will have already been inserted to the database
I discovered that myself. As I said, the sole purpose of the Submit button seems to be to write the captions to the database.
- in the database the photo file name is entered into the "Title" and "Desc" columns.
I wouldn't have a clue. I don't play with the database much.
- The newly uploaded photos do not appear on/in the Timeline on the homepage.
It depends: There are two default albums: Member's Photos which should read Member's Profile photos and Member's Cover Photos which probably should read Member's Banner Photos. These are the wide screen photos at the top of the profile.
Here's the tricky bit: If a member posts his/her photos to either of those albums, the photos don't appear in the Outline. I'm happy with that because profile and cover photos are sort of personal.
For photos to appear in the Outline, they must be uploaded to any other album. Thus the member needs to create a New Album for this purpose. I believe there should be a third default Album called "General Photos" and it should be first item in the selection list. Any photos uploaded into that Album will appear in the Outline and Timeline, but if the member posts a profile photo there, they will need to move it to to "Member's Photos" and choose "Set as Avatar" from the Actions.
A member can create as many new albums as they like and under the current system, some members create a new album for every photo. Crazy but true. As I said, any photos uploaded to new (non-default) albums will appear in the Outline.
- If you leave it there and leave the page without clicking submit button, the above three points will remain.
Not sure what you mean, but yes, the photos remain in the database and await approval it you have Approval set in the Module's settings. The only thing that doesn't happen if you fail to click Submit is this: The captions won't be saved.
After or If you click the submit button:
- Photos will remain inserted into the databse.
Not the photo. That's stored in /modules/boonex/photos/data/files. Only the links and captions are stored in the database.
- the file names will remain in the "Title" column BUT will be deleted from the "Desc" column
I wouldn't know and is it important?
- The newly uploaded will appear on the homepage (i.e XYZ added xxxxx, and show 4 photos).
The Outline only shows three (3) photos. This is probably done to stop flooding. (Where a member posts fifty photos at once only three will appear. Not silly)
How is this supposed to be?
It's magic!
I told you it was easy ;-) In actual fact, you raise a very good question? Why is it so bloody complicated? The Photo module should be scrapped and I can't understand why Modzzz hasn't bought out Premium photos. I reckon every Dolphin owner would purchase a copy.
