Photo Contest Mod Support (Modzzz) - part 2

Quote · 7 Nov 2012

I wonder, why voting on contest entries or on individual entry, the page needs to be reloaded or navigated back to the whole view contest entries page to see the changed count of votes. Since clicking on stars to vote seemingly does nothing = confusing for the members.

1. As you can see, the votes are shown in funny way.

2. As you can see, contest leaders are neither shown in some sensible order, displaying the point leader first in decresing order, for example. ;)

3. Feature request - can we have top leaders block on the site homepage, not just past winners block? Past winners is good if your members caught up with the whole idea but to make them realise there's such feature needs for the homepage to remind them actual leaderboard - something like vote leaders (Boonex block) or your Points leaders...

RESPONSE : I will look into this

RESPONSE : The leaders are shown in order of highest average vote. Note that a member may have more votes than another but with a less average.

3. Feature request - can we have top leaders block on the site homepage, not just past winners block? Past winners is good if your members caught up with the whole idea but to make them realise there's such feature needs for the homepage to remind them actual leader board - something like vote leaders (Boonex block) or your Points leaders...

RESPONSE : I agree, I have added this leader board to the Points Contest mod (to be released shortly) and will update all the other contest mods with the same functionality.

Points contest mod? Now hear hear more! :)

Shouldn't be the (sorting by) the highest average vote distinguished on the leader-board somehow, btw? ;)

How can I reinstall the photo contest without losing the current contest? and also there is a bug on the photo contest. members can vote more than 10,000 time daily for themselves on the photo contest mod. The way for them to do that they have to click on view contest then vote then "click the go back"  and "click to go forward" this way they can vote forever nonstop.

Can it be fixed?

Issue resolved. Download again and re-upload all files to your server. Also, broken links issue was fixed.

It appears you have code in place to block accounts with the same IP address from voting more than once... for example, if there is a limit of one vote per day then if two site members reside at the same home only one of them can vote (per day).  While I can see why it might be necessary for many sites where it's easy to setup alternate accounts (when their free), not all sites need that degree of vote blocking.  My D7.0.9 site, with paid memberships, has many cases where two site members reside at the same home and both should be allowed to vote in the Photo Contest.  Please add code to make the IP-blocking filter an option that admins can easily turn on/off.

TIA :-)

Noted, I will add the option in a future update.

I asked this question a long time ago and see if I could jump back in the game with this.

Can you see about adding the ability for members to create Photo Contests?

I will keep an eye on this thread too and will only buy when the 'member can create contest' function is added, and another Modzz mod I have an issue with works correctly.

Also, is it possible for members have the ability to vote for a certain period of time after the competition has closed to allow those late entries to receive votes? In other words, have different closing dates for both entries and voting.

@BoucheTalk - Seems there was an issue during uninstall which caused the language strings to become detached. I have removed them (by using the language settings section) and now the module is installing properly again.

ok we bought this mod a while ago and attempted to run a photo contest. all seemed good but CRON kept sending out an email every 5 minutes with the error below. I have been through the code and can't find anything wrong with it.

PHP Parse error:  syntax error, unexpected end of file in web/modules/modzzz/photocontest/classes/BxPhotoContestDb.php on line 1540

We un-installed and re-installed - same thing no change.

We decided to run a contest for 3 weeks and persist to delete all the emails that where getting sent by the CRON every 5 min(what a nightmare)

So the contest ran for 3 weeks every thing seemed to be working fine.

BUT

The contest finish date arrives and the contest still keeps going!!! and at the exact second the contest finished our server totally crashed! We restarted the server and the contest sure enough is still running and says "Ends 19 hours ago" and there is no past winners cause it just never ends!

it saddens me that we have to remove this module from our site cause it really went well.

Modzzz we love your work but the answer to fix everything cant be to give you guys logins to all our ftp areas and dolphin admin this is a security risk as we don't really know any of these developers (not just you Modzzz)

anyway maybe some input into what might be causing this issue would be helpful as im not a total noob!

@shanematt - Developers typically do not need FTP access to fix errors. In a normal scenario, a developer will replicate the problem locally and then provide a patch release to fix it. However, in cases where the problem cannot be replicated and no other client is experiencing that problem (as in your case) then it is logical to ask for FTP access so as to troubleshoot and see what unique situation exists on your site that is causing your problem. I understand your concerns about security, however, the information provided regarding your error is not sufficient for me to deduce a possible cause without being able to troubleshoot directly.

While trying to keep up-to-date with everything, I've just seen this on your module page.

Product isn't selling, further product support and update maybe unavailable.

I have bought this module but never used it, as with Writing Contests.

https://www.boonex.com/m/Writing_Contests

I am in the process of upgrading Dolphin from 7.1.6 to 7.3.0 and have these two modules that might never work as intended.

While you might not wish to offer a refund on these products, perhaps you could offer replacement modules that will be maintained?
