Hello,
I have created many photo categories through the Admnin > "Category settings" but they don't show when the user add/submit a new photo. They only show when editing an existing photo. How to show Photo Categories while submitting a new photo?
Thanks

This only one of the dozens of problems with the antiquated and poorly designed Photos Module.
From memory, members are NOT given the opportunity to add a category when uploading photos.
The only time they can do this is when they edit the photo details, then a category is mandatory.
How weird is that?

Thanks for your reply johnk42. You are right, Boonex developers would have thought about it. Any workaround even hacking the code?
Thanks

Unfortunately it's not something I'm able to do. Leonid my be able to help, but it's just one of dozens of changes needed.
I've almost got my photos module working properly but I still have a long way to go.
The problem you have here is that everyone wants something different and the only way I can see that happening is for every item to be a block that can be slid into a page template.
Use the Join form for example. You can add stuff to the form provided you can create a field block. Unfortunately you can't create field blocks for other pages and some like the Photo upload page or window just aren't accessible to us mere mortals. If they were, a categories block may be there for us to use or NOT use.
I wish!

Yeah, too sad. Hopeful Boonex will provide a solution to give members the ability to add a category while submitting a Photo. Same applies with video, file and sound categories. Without this ability, categories in Dolphin are just useless. |
This change started I think with the 7.2 version. The way the uploader worked was changed. I think the idea was that mobile users wanted only the minimal fields since doing anything on a mobile is more difficult with fat fingers; although the mindless dolts that do nothing but stare at a mobile all day on idiotic sites such as FackSucks can do the two thumb typing at great speeds; practice does make perfect. Western Civilisation is falling before our eyes; we use to read about the collapse of great civilisation in history class, now we are living that history. It could be exciting if the end result was not going to be so dire. I find it funny, Sorros and his cronies think they are going to be the ones sitting on top; no, the ones you used to collapse the nations will be the ones in power you dolt.
Anyway, that little side trip aside, you can edit the code and place such things back in place. If you can't edit the code I do custom code work for a fee.
Geeks, making the world a better place |
Hopeful Boonex will take it back to the core feature. |
Ah! Twiddle Boxes are the new Bubonic Plague.
The problem with Dolphin is that it tries to make an horizontal wide wide screen go vertical to suit the twiddle box users by using responsive code. That doesn't quite work, so is seems they've stripped all the good bits out to please some without considering others.
I've always argued that there should be a dedicated twiddle box template that a member can select if he or she wishes to use Dolphin that way.
This is what Oxwall have done. At the bottom of the page you will see a link to a mobile version of the site.

It works very well. It may be the same way Dolphin does it, but certain elements like the Menu are replaced with the hamburger for example.
The Nightclub template did something similar, but not quite as well.

What is needed is to have two page builders, one for users using a computer and one for users on a mobile. There is a mobile pages builder but it is for the app to use. The main thing for mobile users is that everything needs to be in one column to avoid horizontal scrolling. One column for computer users is a crapy way to view.

I can't remember how Oxwall addresses the problem. As Dolphin reads the left column first, then the centre or right column next on mobiles, maybe an additional tick box in each page block saying "Show on Mobile Phone" would be a very simple solution.
To achieve this, Page Builder would have to show every Dolphin page and all the blocks that page contains. Then we could add a categories or a copyright block on the upload form if we wanted them there.
How Wonderful that would be.
I understand certain blocks are essential for the script to run correctly, but these can be locked.
In the old days a 3rd party module developer would have probably seen the wisdom in creating such a module . Today I believe they're looking elsewhere.

And / or there should be a field where we could add numbers to the boxes. So that we can create a different hierarchy for the mobile view, instead of left, middle and then right column.
Like that we can set a number to indicate in what sequence the boxes should be shown. Or we use a 0 to indicate that a box should not be shown on mobile at all.

That would work
It's probably a better idea, because my suggestion would limit the mobile structure which would still be based on the PC structure. Numbered blocks in this scenario is a good suggestion.
