Anyone successfully using PHPList (for newsletters) with a Dolphin D7 website? What issues needed to be overcome to get things working? I can imagine the primary issue is copying your Dolphin members to the PHPList app. Can this be automated? Any other issues? http://pkforum.dolphinhelp.com |
After further research and trading messages, I've switched my focus to MailChimp (Free) for the newsletter and QuickChimp (Free) for a simple subscribe box. I have not tested this yet but I imagine it should work. http://pkforum.dolphinhelp.com |
I dont send newletters through the site. Maybe I dont understand the questions but Fast Email Delivery Engine works very well. You can also link it through the site if you wish.
I prefer not to, maybe I am paranoid or dont really understand the whole yahoo, hotmail, gmail spam technique or how it works but I do know Yahoo, hotmail, gmail all make it easier to click spam on the newletter then it is to simply unsubscribe (which is at the bottom of the newletter)
like I said, maybe it is because I dont understand it, but I prefer to keep my websites Ip address free from newletters. I got in spam before with this, not related but if it happens to your site simply go to the cbl and delist it.

I was doing some comparison previously too and just curious why you didn't use phplist in the end? It's free compared to Mailchimp and seems to have all the newsletter features.

Several reasons: 1) feedback I got from another BoonEx forum member was MailChimp is easier to use than PHPList; 2) after looking at the two, I agree, it appears to be much easier to use with some very nice feature-rich tools; 3) the "Newsletter" editor for my site prefers the GUI for MailChimp; 4) it's free* for the amount I expect to be using it, i.e. less than 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 monthly emails; and 5) I think I'll be able to integrate it into my site without extra expenses.

Thanks for the explanation! Was just thinking if it hits above the free subscription, then it might be become more expensive in the future. Whereas phplist is free for any amount so you only need to 'customise' it once for the layout etc and the cost is one time fee. |
I have used phplist for years. There is a simple export script to run on Dolphin database, and then import into phplist. Nothing automated, and it does work well.
MailChimp is an awesome system, and works easily within the site also. Their forms builder is easy, and the system works on all my Word Press clients with no issues.
Phplist is FREE, and does have easy controls to throttle, but for the newbie, MailChimp is better. Just be well aware of your limits and subscribers.
