Orca vs phpBB

All this years Dolphin is getting approach, with new things. But still I don't understand why is using in this project ORCA forum wchih is one of the most useless forum script in net.??? PhpBB is much more further better than Orca, but Orca is still into dolphin!!!!!

I know that it is possible to replace Orca by using modules from market,' but those modules has no full integration with doplhin, there is still a'lot things they have no provide, and after my all specyfication, it is cost 400$, which is a lot.

Why this thing - full integration phpBB module is not prepared by Dolphin team, for extra money e.g.?

Tthe Dolphin Team will do it  once and good, and all admins can buy it and they will be sure, that they have full integration!

And  each owner of dolphhin choose wich forum he want to use?

Easy and simple! Is'nt it?

A few months ago, I might have agreed with you, but recent improvements in Orca have made it tolerable.  PHPBB doesn't even have a wysiwyg editor yet.  Orca is missing some of the features of dedicated forum scripts, but Orca is not without it's strong points.  The biggest advantage Orca has over mainstream dedicated forums scripts like phpbb, IPB, and vBulletin, is that post editing is entirely html based, and does away with BBCODE.

With Orca and it's tinyMCE editor, you can:

  • Safely embed videos/flash from just about any site
  • Upload images to insert in posts from within the TinyMCE editor (requires a plugin)
  • Allow the use of html in posts

Let's see you do that with phpbb.  Orca still needs a few more moderation tools, sub forums, and a few more things, but overall it has been improved enough for me to use it over IPB.

What is it that phpbb does, that you would like Orca to do?  Perhaps we can convince Boonex to add it to Orca.

It doesn't matter what kind of "wysiwyg editor" you add to phpbb, it will always be a bbcode editor, and as such, will place severe restrictions on what can be posted.  The simple fact is, forums that use bbcode editors are a bad fit for Dolphin.

Somewhere I saw a forum script that uses html editors and does away with all the bbcode stuff, but I don't remember what it was called.  Something like that would be a better fit for dolphin.

I am in total agreement with HL on this one as well. I have grown very attached to the speed and ease of the new Fish forum. Of course Phpbb had been around a lot longer and some would say it is a proven and well established script but hey, My members are raving about just how fast Orca is compared to other sites, including facebook. No need to fix what's not broken.......
