Orca Forum not working

My website address is: www.av-techonline.com

Forum is not working all I get is a blank page. This was working fine. I have the Forum 'Spy' mod on my home page and that works fine.

If I go into Admin and go to Plugins/Orca I still get a blank page.

How can I fix this?

Many thanks in advance,

Stuart

Your forums are working fine as of 1:13 AM EST using IE 7.  I was even able to go so far as to grab this from them...

Now it seems that all our computer needs will be supplied via the Internet. Google has brought out the Chrome browser. The idea is that the 'chrome' browser is an operating system within a browser. You know how it goes, you do all your word processing, accounts and graphics etc. 'online'. So, all your programs and information together with your corporate information and secret information is stored on Googles 'secure' computers. (secure? ask VP Candidate, Sarah Palin)

Ok, here's the rub, what happens if a virus or DOS attack takes out Googles 'secure' servers? or a terrorist organisation damage the internet, what happens then??

So you see, it's working fine now.  Not sure what the issue was...

Yes, it is working now. I had to re-install Orca completely. I still do not know what caused the problem.

I have the same problem and I reinstalled Orca as well, but I still get a blank page.  Sometimes I am able to login to the admin, but when I do, I get a blank page again.  I get this message:

The XML page cannot be displayed

Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Access is denied.

Any suggestions?

Rather than create a new post with a similar problem, I thought I would save space.

I hate to gripe. I hate to be the one to look like a fool in front of people when I can't figure something out....I rely on the installation instructions to carry me through to a successful website.

SO, with that being said, can SOMEONE please freaking tell me why this orca forum is not working?

I just destroy the work I'd done on this website to completely and fresh(ly) install Dolphin/Orca....and this is the result:

http://www.blackhawkunlimited.com/orca/

I am soooo frustrated at this point. The next post below is the first post-install screen I received. Doesn't look pretty, but this is Orca installed after installing Dolphin.

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Uh....for some reason it won't post all of the error messages in the reply....they are there when I edit, but it clears it upon posting here. That's weird. Basically it was 9 Error While Executing notifications stating the tables already existed.

Check your server if php is compiled with XSLT and also look at this Wiki

Killer,

Thanks for the response. I did a fresh installation. It came up. Now I am stuck with the stupid effing [L[ bug on the forum. I press the EN button when logged in as Admin, it tells me it compiled successfully...and nothing changes.

ANY suggestions?

Php with mbstring, domxml and xsl extensions are required to run Orca forum and support UTF-8... Does your host match these requirements ?

Yes, we comply with all the requirements.

Ironically, I run another site on the same server and it works fine (after clicking the EN).

In some instances in the past, i have overwritten the Orca directory and this has resolved the language compile problem fro me. certainly cant hurt trying.

Derby,

also you have to get out of orca or refresh the page to see that the language has been compiled for the EN lanaguge. It doesnt automatically remove from the view you are looking at.

There is another option here, if you have dolphin installed on another site, and its all functional, zip up that install and pull it over to the new domain, edit the /inc/header.inc.php and the /ray/modules/global/config.xml setting the path to the new location, export the database, or copy the database renaming it, and provide those parameters to the new copied site. just a suggestion.

Derby,

i just remembered something about Orca, there are some directories that will not remove they have file owners as 99 i think. dont ask me why that is, i never figured it out. When you remove the orca directory and then reinstall the orca directory there are files that if you didnt check, there are files that remained behind. if you remove the Orca directory, then refresh your remote side, check to see if Orca is gone. I forget which files it is that it wont toss away, but there are a few of them. If you have shell, you can chown those files, if you dont have shell you can ask your hosting provider to chown those files and folders. if they wont do it, then you can rename the Orca directory, and the re-upload the orca directory from the zipped package. this has worked for me in the past. i fought this battle for about three months, coming in here getting suggestions, and nothing was working for me. at any rate, let me know if you get anywhere with this. it also looks as if something went wacky, since the background is all askew.

Dosdawg,

You were correct about the files not removing totally. I deleted the entire folder through CPANEL (wouldn't delete in FTP).....downloaded the Orca 2.0.2 from this website, installed it...and check it out now.

Well, at that url, you haven't created any forums, so there's nothing to post to.

You also haven't created any social groups so there's nothing to post to there either.  From what I can see, everything is working perfectly.

You do know you have to create a group folder first, and then you have to create a topic for people to post in. These forums dont work the same as conventional ones. Just think of it like this if you are use to other forums, creating a group folder is the same as making a category , and then when youve done that, you then have to make a forum in that category (group folder) for people to post in.

I see youve managed it fine. works great

Quote · 14 Mar 2009

OK....I BELIEVE I have "solved" the problem. I took DosDawgs advice and copied the settings over from the "successful" version of Orca on another site.

It appears to have worked.

I am not happy with the clunky install....but if it works, I guess I ultimately have no complaint. WHOA what a PITA though.

Thanks for the tip on groups. I didn't realize you had to manage forum to create a group, then add a forum...

Files and directories owned by '99' are those that were created by a php script as the default apache user 'nobody'.  To delete them you need shell access.  It's a real pain in the ass sometimes.   If you use chown to change ownership to the sites owner, then sometimes the script that created the file won't work because the ownership is wrong... another big pain.  I believe a lot of these problems go away if you use suphp.
