Occasionally I get people saying they cannot join

Occasionally I get potential members who say they cannot join.

The ones that actually have contacted me are less than 5 but I am sure there are many more that cannot join only never alert me of the issue.

I used to be able to access my site very well with Internet Explore but over time it came to a point I could not post in the Forums, Articles, Blogs using IE however I was able to using FireFox.

I do not know if that may be the problem with users with IE trying to join. Two did admit they were using Internet Explorer. Now its not very nice to have to ask users to use a different browser, especially since there are 1000 of other competitors. I just like this not to be a problem for anyone who is seeking to join.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

I have done numerous test profiles and everything works from my end in Firefox (since that is what I use all the time now)

Others are able to join and it seems no problems with many just some... I have no clue how many is some!

I was told by a user that my site was sticky at first and later worked out the more he used it.( yet I have not seen this when I did test profiles)

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Do you have any of the anti spam dns block lists on? I had to shut mine off due to the number of people that could not join my site.

You mean the IP Blacklist System? I had some IP Blocked and deleted them if this was what you are referring to. If not please explain further. Thank you for responding so quickly!

In your admin. Under tools. Then antispam tools.

Unless your running a real old version of dolphin.

I do not have "antispam" only IP Blocking. I assume its the same. Yes, I am running 7.03 which I guess is considered old by now. Thank you. I hope this will solve the problem, though I believe this was all going on before I ever decided to try IP Blocking.

It is not the same. Your version of dolphin is too old. It does not have the feature i was refering to, so that obvisouly is not it.

Now your going to have to go a little further with your explination. Cannot join does not say much.

What is the issue? Any error messages, and notice of invalid id or password, and messages of any kind, something else will be needed to narrow it down.

The person recently was saying that the "description" says there is error even though he added the necessary 20 characters.

Another said their e-mail was "invalid"even though it was correct.

Yet I had 5 sign up over night with no problems.

I know that is vague, but since I cannot replicate it myself, its very hard to diagnose.

I had problems with people joining in too, and the reasons were that

1) They try to upload a picture in a format which was not accepted by Dolphin

2) They used fake email addresses

Make sure the emails they are trying are real, if they are, it would be interesting to see one of those for future troubleshotings.

As you probably already knows, you can also decide what fields to make compulsory on the Join form and also modify or remove the criterias (like the minimum amount of 20 characters you previously mentioned.....i have only 5 characters, and people who knows me, tells me that's already "borderline"...go figure!).

Thank you for your reply to my post.

The e-mail complaint I receive from the member trying to join is real because I was able to communicate to them using the e-mail they signed up with.

What I found is Boonex does not like it when you copy and paste and e-mail into the blank you must type it in.

I found out users who complained they had trouble to join were both using FireFox and Internet Explorer not just IE which is what I thought may cause some issues.

I noticed Boonex doesn't like when you sign up using a domain to some website other than Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail.

I still haven't solved the problem and just today someone said they had trouble.

I did add a HTML block to the sign up as suggested on the forums here to cut down on China Spammers and that has helped immensly but I do not know what I need to do to fix this.

Dolphin has no way of knowing if the emails are "real" or not.. it just makes sure it is the correct format and doesn't have any non-allowed characters. It also doesn't have any code to stop certain providers (unless you added something yourself).

If other people ARE able to join then it's a problem with something the people who aren't able to join are entering. Did they tell you exactly what they tried to enter that gave the error?

Quite often when people copy and paste, they just don't do it right, and a space ends up before or after the email.

I cannot duplicate the problem at all. I copy and paste all the time in dolphin. I also have people using all kinds of domains. Not just yahoo, hotmail or gmail. So i do not believe that is the problem either.

But i have one other setting you can check considering you have a older version of dolphin. I am not sure if you have this either, but check in admin under settings then advanced settings- Other.

Total security impact threshold to send report:

And

Total security impact threshold to send report and block aggressor:

Make sure both are set to -1

Thats minus 1 or negative 1

If those settings are not under other, then check all other sections in advanced settings.

I am not even sure if your version of dolphin has these either.

Tracking down a problem in a version of dolphin that not many people are running anymore will not be easy.

You should really consider upgrading. A lot of bugs have been fixed in the last 6 releases.

 Hello.

Thank you for your reply.

1.) The person #1 said there was some error with the description and he said he entered the correct number of characters.

2.) The other person just today said she could not join even though all fields were filled in.

There were others but I would have to research to see what they said.

Maybe its just because some people are not savy to figure out how to make it work. Like when I added a profile there was some error showing with the e-mail (which I copied and pasted into that window) and then I went back and deleted the e-mail and typed it in. and all was fine. Stupid things like this people who do not know would have no clue to try...

 Hello.

I looked at what you said and I did a snap shot of what I have. All say as such but one says "0" should it be -1 as you wrote?

I want to upgrade to the latest version but I am scared that I will have so many problems.

Your settings are fine. The one thats 0 is suppose to be 0. It's not one if the settings i asked you to check.

Dolphin has no way of knowing if the emails are "real" or not..

When you select the option for a confirmation e-mail before an user can join, it should be enough

That would be true if the people could join his site but not CONFIRM their profile.. but what he is saying is that they can't get past the join form.

I think Dean is right and they are either screwing up a cut and paste or trying to put something weird into one of the blanks.

I can see what he's saying, that's why i was quoting what you wrote rather than what he wrote, in a way to highlight how fake e-mails can be kept out and also a new user joining the site, might not be able to go further until he can proof the provided e-mail it's real.

I also had some people getting an error message before, and looked like if their account was not created, but checking into the admin's panel, i could see those accounts, have a look, you never know Smile

Anyhow when I respond to their complaints that they cannot join I verify their e-mail is live and not bouncing back to me.

I signed up for a profile for one recently and again I saw all was correct being sure to type in their e-mail not copy and paste and I saw it would not go through the first time I pressed the join button. There was some glitch in the sign up process and I quickly corrected it got it to go through the second time. Some small thing I don't even remember now.( I should remember!)Yell

It concerns me because I do not want this to happen at all. I recently received support from a bigger more well known site and all their profiles are coming to me to join and I need to make sure it works well for all.
