No confirmation email.

  • A new member joins
  • A confirmation email is sent
  • They click the link and are confirmed.
  • I get an email saying they were confirmed
  • I check their profile and activate them
  • They get no email informing them they've been activated
  • They change their profile information, most notably, their email address.
  • They get no confirmation email
  • I don't get an email telling me they changed anything and need approval
  • They don't even get an email telling them an admin has to approve it

How it should go:

  • A new member joins
  • he is sent a confirmation email
  • He clicks the email auth link and is auth'd to the standard (or promo) level
  • I get an email telling me he's joined.
  • I check his profile and necessarily adjut his membership
  • He gets an email he's been approved and adjusted by the admin

And if he changes his profile info, (his email address)

  • He gets an email confirmation link to validate the new email address.
  • Once his email checks out, he gets an email telling him he's awaiting admin approval
  • I get an email telling me he's changed his profile and needs approval
  • I approve the changes and re-activate him
  • He gets an email telling him his changes have been approved.

Simple.

How come I cannot get this done? The validation system is sadly lacking in the necessary features to protect my site....?

ALSO. There is NOTHING that tells me if the members email was successfully confirmed! I might be authorizing someone with a bad email address after their profile edit.!!!!! I've already posted on this once. I can;t believe no one is chiming in here ....

I also just made a post on it.  The codebase looks like there is some confirmation mechanisms but I can't yet tell how or when they're triggered.

That's my issue exactly. On my site, We clear each new member before we allow them any real access since it's a towing specific forum. The need to re-validate if profile information is changed is very great for my site. In fact, if you want to get really serious about it, I would love to see an administrative mod that would allow us to verify all email addresses with a click of a mouse, then tell us which accounts have emails that have failed the test. To me, this would be the best tool any administrator could ever have to control memberships.

I know this thread is quite old, but would like to know if anything came of your great idea for a mod? That is something that seems like it would be very useful to every admin, so I'm surprised I haven't seen anything like this in the market.

Nope, nothing has changed. The entire membership administrative function in Dolphin is abysmal at best. I still verify each new member that joins and I still have to do each one manually. I do get failed email messages to my site email when an email fails so I can follow up but it's still laborious and poorly designed.

One thing that has helped was installing Deano's Facebook Connect mod. When a new user joins using their Facebook account, you know the email address is valid and can bypass the email verification process. On these, I have created a special Facebook membership that allows them to be active as soon as they join. So far, it has worked well but i still have to manually and one at a time, verify new users who join the old fashioned way.

One point I want to make. If you are trying to drive up membership numbers, waiting for an admin to verify will cost you users. My site is not developed in an attempt to get as many users as I can, We only want members that are specific to the towing industry. By doing this, I get lower numbers of signups but the quality of the membership is far superior. Many of my members have been with me for many years and are regular contributors......

I am hoping (and this IS A HINT to the Boonex team), that Dolphin U updates the entire administrative membership functions and gets rid of the current way of doing things.....
