New server configuration [OPTIMIZE]

Hello,I buy new server on hostforweb.com Here's parameters:

Processor: Intel Xeon L5320 (8M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Operating System: Linux - CentOS 6.x [recommended]
Operating System Version: 64 Bit
Control Panel: cPanel/WHM - CentOS Only
Primary Disk: 500GB SATAII 7200 RPM [included]
Secondary Disk: 500GB SATAII 7200 RPM [included]
Memory/RAM: 4GB DDR2 RAM [ included ]
Network Port Speed: 100Mbit/s port [included]
Public Bandwidth: 10TB Premium Bandwidth [included]
IP Addresses: 5 IPS [included]

Previous server also had to hostforweb.com , but technicans from hostforweb assured me that this is about two times better than my previous one.

There are often problems recently overload on the new server. Every day is overload, which they are not able to explain technicians. They say it's probably the backup settings. Switch over to create a backup once a week and it does not work, server still overload everyday and they must hard reboot to server works.

Now, they wrote to me that I have to buy RAM. Why ? the server is about two times better than before.

Please help me to set the server to works good for Dolphin and optimize it onceto works very well.

Best Regards,

Lucas

Apparently your site is busy, IMO you should have aroung 12GB of ram.

One way to see performance is to SSH into your server and run the command "top."

This will actually show your server loads in three captures, at the moment, 5 minutes prior, and 15 minutes prior.

I have been on a server with about the same specs as your and the system load would rise to over "125" not kidding,

the server was either under a DOS or as the owner told me the site grew to fast.

Thank you for checking and informations. Someone from hostforweb.com stuff wrote to me as follows:

Hello,

is there any particular time when the issues on new server are happening, as I don't see anything wrong with server usage at the moment, load is low and stable and there is plenty of free RAM available.
I do however see some higher loads recorded in system activity report up until 8am server time. So it is possible that these are caused by backups but I can't say for certain.

Would you like us to try to set the ticket to reopen tonight at 1am server time once backup process is started so we can than monitor and check if this is indeed the issue?

Please advise.

according to him, there is enough RAM to work properly...what is the truth? Website works for me pretty quickly and without problems. Problem is  just about the time when server overload.

>One way to see performance is to SSH into your server and run the command "top."
how exactly can I do it?

>I have been on a server with about the same specs as your and the system load would rise to over "125" not kidding

and how to prevent it?

The ram probably is OK as that is what I use and never get above 1.5 on the loads.

Let them handle the spikes, they would be the best ones at the moment.

Please let use know what they find.

If your not a SSH user, there is really no need to go into that. You would have to google all the info... Smile

Server load and proc manager are all over  cpanel/whm .

The load average is on the top of the page as soon as you sign in to whm.

The only problem i see with your server is the cpu.

1.8 ghz is sort of on the very bottom side as far as cpu's go even if it is a quad core ...

I mean my cell phone as a quad core 1.6ghz cpu if thats any indication for comparison.

Not putting your server down just pointing out the weak spot of the machine.

Yesterday they send me this information:

Server is up and running and the site is opening.
Resource usage logs are showing huge IO wait which has caused the server to become unresponsive.

12:01:25 AM CPU %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle
01:50:31 AM all 0.29 0.00 0.88 98.71 0.00 0.11
Average: all 0.29 0.00 0.88 98.71 0.00 0.11

all indications are that it was a bad backup creationbut still not 100% sure.

Thanks for informations. Now my load average is: 0.20 0.18 0.17 but sometimes jumping up and down.

So it looks like I have a weaker processor than mobile phones? What does this mean for my website?

iowait means the hard drive is taking a long time to complete a task.  Could be a bottleneck some place where the drive is getting hung up on something.
