When a new member joins my site, they're given "promoter" status. Seems to me the default should be "standard" for new members, and only if I promote them should the status be upgraded.
Is it just my install? Or is there some reason for this?

Default is promotion status. If you want to take that off go to Admin>Settings>Membership Levels. Uncheck the box next to "Enable promotional membership" now all new users that signup will be given standard membership level. |
Thanks, I changed that setting yesterday, figuring that's what I needed to do to avoid all of that. Just seems a little backward to me.
Thanks for your help!

It is intended for Pay sites as a way to provide a "Trial membership" - I left it on for now so I can see how they behave before upgrading to Regular Member, without having to resort to authenticating each user :) |
I thought it used to create a standard member by default. I was trying to use the promotion membership for a promotion. Now I can't. But I was.
When was this changed?
Is there a way to make it default to a standard member and still have the promotion membership be available? I know I had it that way before?

You can go into your Admin Panel> Settings> Membership Levels and remove the checkmark from "Enable promotional membership". This will automatically put your new members in "Standard" mode. If you want to change them to promotional, you will need to click on Members, click the member's link under username, the set the membership level to promotional from there.

Am I mistaken or has this changed?
I am almost positive I was creating new members and they would default to standard while I had the "Enable promotional membership" selected and set to 180 days with 7 days notification of expiration.
